On the evening of November 8, 2024, Baheal Medical (301015.SZ) issued an announcement stating that, to further deepen cooperation and promote resource integration and synergistic development, the company has signed an investment agreement with ZAP Medical System, Ltd., a global leader in radiosurgical robotics, to participate in the subscription of its Series E preferred shares. Meanwhile, Baheal Medical plans to sign a commercialization agreement with ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as “ZAP”), thereby securing the exclusive rights to commercially operate ZAP’s core product, the ZAP-X® Mars Rover Radiosurgical Robot for head and neck radiotherapy (hereinafter referred to as “ZAP-X”), and related accessories in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

It is reported that ZAP is a global innovator in the research and development of radiosurgical robotics, originating from Silicon Valley, USA. The company’s founder and CEO, John R. Adler, is the inventor of ZAP-X, the product proposed for this collaboration, as well as the creator of the globally renowned CyberKnife Radiosurgery System for radiation therapy.

The announcement indicates that ZAP-X is a radiosurgical robot specifically developed for treating solid malignant tumors and lesions in the intracranial and cervical regions. It is also the world’s first radiotherapy equipment with complete self-shielding capabilities, eliminating the need for constructing expensive traditional radiation-shielded rooms, thereby enhancing the accessibility of radiosurgical technology from an installation perspective. Furthermore, ZAP-X incorporates innovative designs such as a dual-ring gantry, an automated rotating collimator, and a 45 cm source-to-axis distance (SAD). These features maximize radiation concentration on the target area to act upon tumor and lesion cells while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues, achieving sub-millimeter precision in radiotherapy.

Publicly available information indicates that ZAP-X has obtained marketing authorization in numerous countries and regions worldwide, including the United States, the European Union, Japan, and India. In June 2023, it received approval for registration as an innovative product from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), formally entering the Chinese market. Common indications for this product include brain tumors such as vestibular schwannomas, meningiomas, and pituitary adenomas, as well as other neurological conditions such as arteriovenous malformations and trigeminal neuralgia.

As a professional pharmaceutical industrialization platform, Baheal Medical is committed to optimizing medical scenarios through technological innovation and facilitating the rapid clinical adoption of innovative products. In addition to building a robust brand portfolio in the fields of OTC and general health, OTX prescription drugs, and medications for critical conditions such as oncology, Baheal Medical has also achieved initial success in the high-end medical device sector. Innovative products, including fully magnetically levitated artificial hearts and ultrasound-based electromagnetic navigation systems, are accelerating their entry into the market.

This equity investment in ZAP marks Baheal Medical’s formal entry into the field of precision radiotherapy, establishing its international competitiveness on a global scale. Baheal Medical stated that it is optimistic about ZAP’s growth potential in the precision radiotherapy sector. Leveraging synergies within the group’s ecosystem innovation, the company will promote the implementation and application of ZAP-X across the entire value chain—including R&D, scaled manufacturing, and market promotion—to provide more advanced and effective treatment solutions for patients worldwide.
