Recently, Shenzhen Minimally Invasive Surgery (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Minimally Invasive®The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) system Infinity115™, developed by Minimally Invasive Surgical Medical Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. under Shenzhen Minimally Invasive Surgery (Group) Co., Ltd., has officially launched its pre-market clinical study. Led by Professor Hou Xiaotong from Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, as the principal investigator, the study successfully completed the first pre-market clinical enrollment at Anzhen Hospital under Professor Hou’s team.

This male patient was in critical condition upon admission. The Anzhen team initiated extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support in the early hours of October 31, 2024. The patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation, remained stable, and his cardiac function showed effective recovery. After seven days of continuous ECMO support, the patient was successfully weaned off the device.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), as a critical component of Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) technology, is indicated for cardiac and respiratory arrest, acute severe heart failure, and acute severe respiratory failure resulting from various etiologies. By providing continuous extracorporeal oxygenation and circulatory support, ECMO alleviates cardiopulmonary burden, thereby buying time for patient recovery or therapeutic intervention.

A complete ECMO system comprises an active pump unit, pump head, long-duration membrane oxygenator, and consumables such as femoral arterial and venous cannulas. Minimally invasive®Surgical Infinity115™ extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) system, which encompasses all independently developed components from active systems to passive consumables mentioned above, has achieved a leading position in China in terms of solution completeness. Specifically: The pump system adopts the currently mainstream single-point passive magnetic levitation support technology, combined with the unique flow field design of the pump head consumables, achieving the goals of low turbulence, low thrombosis, and low blood damage, with its overall performance reaching the industry’s mainstream level; The long-duration membrane lung MOBYO™, since its launch in Europe in 2020, set a record of continuous use for more than 50 days without performance abnormalities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and is at the industry-leading level in terms of oxygenation performance, carbon dioxide removal performance, blood damage rate, and thrombosis formation rate; Femoral arteriovenous cannula SleekFlow®Since its launch in China in late 2023, it has accumulated thousands of successful clinical cases. As the only domestically produced TPU femoral arteriovenous cannula currently available, its features—including thin walls, a large lumen, high blood flow rate, and low hemolysis—have been widely recognized by the clinical community.

Professor Hou Xiaotong, Chairman of the Extracorporeal Life Support Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Chairman of the Extracorporeal Circulation Branch of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, stated: “Over 90% of the patients we treat are critically ill individuals who could not have been saved by previous technologies. With ECMO technology, we can successfully pull them back from the brink of death. I hope to see more minimally invasive®“Similarly, in the field of surgery, domestically developed ECMO manufacturers with full independent intellectual property rights have entered the market, gradually reaching and surpassing international standards, thereby providing Chinese doctors and patients with more and better solutions.”

Minimally Invasive®Surgery focuses on the research and development of comprehensive medical solutions for cardiac surgery and critical care. In addition to ECMO products, multiple other products are in an orderly research and development process. In the future, MicroPort®The Surgical Division will continue to launch more high-quality, affordable innovative products, optimize its product portfolio layout, and save more patients.
