VCBeat has learned that Wuhan Kaidewei Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Kaidewei”) recently announced the completion of its Series B financing round, raising nearly RMB 200 million. The round was led by FIRHealth Capital with an investment of RMB 50 million, and participated by Wuhan Hi-tech Holding Group Co., Ltd., Hongtai Industry-Finance, Hubei Science And Technology Investment Co.,Ltd., Jointown Chuchang Investment, Baiying Fund, among others. Zhuhai Yuanmiao, a previous investor, also increased its stake in this round. The funds will be used for the clinical development and market expansion of the company’s products in the field of gynecologic oncology diagnosis and treatment.
Gynecological tumors are characterized by a prolonged disease course, high incidence, and strong concealment. Limited by existing diagnostic and therapeutic methods, a significant number of patients experience missed or delayed diagnoses. In recent years, the incidence of gynecological tumors such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer has risen significantly, with a trend toward affecting younger populations. There is an urgent clinical need for non-invasive, precise screening, diagnostic, and staging technologies, as well as effective treatment modalities.
Kaidewei was founded by Professor Ma Ding from Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, a renowned scientist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The company has established an in-depth layout covering the entire process of screening, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of gynecological tumors. Two of its original, first-in-class in vitro diagnostic kits have been approved for entry into the National Medical Products Administration’s Green Channel for Innovative Medical Device Review for two consecutive years. These products are expected to facilitate rapid screening and precise diagnosis and treatment of gynecological tumors such as endometrial cancer and cervical cancer, as well as their precancerous lesions, significantly improving patient accessibility while reducing unnecessary invasive procedures and medical costs. Leveraging decades of research accumulation by Academician Ma Ding’s team, the company is actively developing international frontier innovative therapies, including oncolytic viruses and therapeutic HPV vaccines. Currently, its independently developed novel recombinant oncolytic adenovirus product has been approved to enter Phase I clinical trials, holding promise for addressing the widespread efficacy issues of existing oncolytic virus products and breaking through treatment bottlenecks for patients with solid tumors such as ovarian cancer.
Martin, Founder of Kaidewei and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineeringstated, “The successful completion of this funding round represents strong recognition from the capital markets for our team, and even more so, steadfast support for our dedication to original innovative diagnostic and therapeutic technologies and products in gynecologic oncology, as well as our deep commitment to the field of women’s health. In the area of gynecologic oncology, we have always adhered to a patient-centric approach, driven by technological innovation, and are committed to developing more precise and effective diagnostic and treatment solutions and products. This round of financing will significantly accelerate our R&D efforts, expedite the market launch of our products, and benefit more female patients.”
“At the same time, we deeply recognize that the mutual empowerment between startups and capital markets is a significant force driving industry development. We look forward to joining hands with more like-minded partners to jointly promote the advancement of women’s health and contribute to achieving the grand goal of ‘Healthy China.’”
Huang Xiaobin, Founder of FIRHealth Capital, the Lead InvestorHe stated, “Academician Martin was the first Chief Scientist of the National 973 Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology. With decades of in-depth research across the entire spectrum of obstetric and gynecological diagnosis and treatment, he has remained at the forefront of both clinical practice and scientific research, pioneering numerous international novel gynecological technologies. He is leading Kaidewei in advancing multiple globally first-in-class IVD reagents and innovative drugs. We are honored to collaborate with Academician Martin and look forward to accelerating the development and clinical translation of our technologies, thereby ensuring that patients with gynecologic tumors receive more timely, effective, and accessible diagnosis and treatment.”
