Internet Healthcare Services Reach the Midpoint

Since its inception in 2014, internet healthcare has undergone more than a decade of development. In September 2024, the National Health Commission pointed out that the number of internet hospitals across China had reached 3,340, providing over 100 million online consultation visits annually. However, despite internet hospitals becoming a standard feature, only a limited number are truly effective in delivering high-quality medical services. Addressing these challenges to provide timely, reliable, and high-quality medical care to China’s vast population, and resolving the longstanding issue of “three long waits and one short consultation” in traditional healthcare settings, remains an urgent priority for the industry.

As the year draws to a close and a new one begins, JD Health held two major events in a single day: the “2025 JD Health Annual Doctor Gala” and the “2025 JD Health Digital Intelligence Healthcare Conference.” At these events, it successively unveiled its full suite of large-model products, “AI Jingyi,” based on its comprehensive online scenarios, as well as “JD Zhuoyi,” the industry’s first large-model product designed for hospital-wide application scenarios. Leveraging the technological capabilities of the “Jingyi Qianxun” medical large model, JD Health has built a large-model product service system that covers all online domains and offline healthcare scenarios. It is committed to making medical visits more comfortable for patients, enhancing the efficiency of clinical research for doctors, and streamlining overall hospital operations.

These two conferences have also revealed new models of “wall-breaking” internet healthcare and new pathways to achieving universal access to high-quality medical services.

Implementation of the Closed-Loop Service Model for Medical Testing, Diagnosis, and Prescription: Truly Enhancing the Online Experience of Consultation and Medication Purchase

Historically, online medical consultations faced challenges such as limited diagnostic tools, lack of support from test results, and an inability to complete the full care cycle. In 2024, JD Health launched the service of issuing laboratory test orders through its internet hospital. Combined with its JD Daojia rapid testing and JD Medicine’s instant delivery services, this initiative marked the industry’s first true integration of a closed-loop “consultation–testing–diagnosis–medication” service, encompassing online consultations, at-home testing, physician diagnosis, and medication delivery. With the addition of the laboratory test order function, previous issues have been effectively resolved, further increasing the rates of follow-up tests and revisit consultations.

Currently, JD Health has established a comprehensive library of 396 laboratory tests, 147 of which support home-based sample collection, covering nearly 70% of items typically ordered in outpatient and emergency settings. Over the past year, more than 300,000 users have utilized the home-based testing service. Furthermore, JD Health has continued to iterate on multiple offerings, including expert consultation services and video consultations, thereby enhancing service delivery and expanding the tools available for physicians’ online practice.

At the “Annual Doctor Gala,” Dr. Tian Jiawei, a pulmonologist at Jiangyin People’s Hospital in Jiangsu Province, shared how he leveraged the lab report feature of JD Internet Hospital to help multiple patients identify the causes of their conditions and receive timely medication without leaving home during the peak season for respiratory diseases.

It is reported that JD Health has recently launched an imaging test order service, building upon its existing laboratory test offerings. Patients can use online medical orders to quickly schedule appointments for 65 imaging examination items at partner facilities in seven cities, including Beijing, Zhengzhou, Shenyang, Wenzhou, Changchun, Xiangtan, and Ningde. The entire process—from appointment scheduling to the issuance of test results—can be completed within 24 hours. This initiative further enriches the diagnostic and testing capabilities available to physicians practicing via internet healthcare platforms.

Advancing in Depth: Specialist Centers for Dermatology, Psychology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Achieve New Breakthroughs

In 2024, JD Health further enhanced its internet healthcare specialty system, including dermatology, mental health services, and traditional Chinese medicine. Leveraging its pharmaceutical supply chain advantages, the company has brought more professional pharmaceutical and health products and services “one step closer” to public health needs.

In the field of dermatology, JD Health launched new allergy and sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinics in 2024, added 19 specialized skin disease studios, bringing the total number of expert-led specialized skin disease studios to 78. These studios cover 15 types of skin conditions, ranging from atopic dermatitis to psoriasis. The daily average number of consultations at its online dermatology hospital has exceeded 10,000.

Dr. Wang Shangshang, a dermatologist at Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, shared how new prescriptions for psoriasis medications are issued via JD Internet Hospital, enabling users to enjoy a one-stop experience that includes online follow-up consultations and prescription issuance, medication ordering and delivery, and access to services at JD Pharmacy. Physicians bear the heavy burden of daily clinical diagnosis and treatment. How to further improve diagnostic and therapeutic efficiency and accuracy remains a challenging issue for them. In the realm of AI-assisted diagnosis, JD Health released version 1.0 of its AI Diagnostic Assistant in early 2024, which rapidly became the most widely used intelligent diagnostic support tool among physicians.

The current AI Diagnostic Assistant 2.0 has further evolved from a general-purpose assistant into a personalized assistant for physicians. Leveraging technological iterations, it provides more precise and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment recommendations and support, thereby enhancing physicians’ clinical proficiency. Currently, the triage accuracy of “AI Diagnostic Assistant 2.0” has reached 99.5%, electronic medical record documentation efficiency has improved by 120%, and the first-contact resolution rate for AI-assisted inquiries exceeds 90%.

Physicians also have research needs. In their research endeavors, they often face multiple challenges, such as a lack of research platforms and heavy workloads, making the research process time-consuming, labor-intensive, and inefficient. The officially launched AI Research Assistant provides physicians with comprehensive services, ranging from data collection and analysis to assistance in drafting medical papers and offering experimental guidance. This feature is currently available free of charge to physicians.

Furthermore, JD Health’s “AI Doctor Agent,” a customized “digital human” for physicians, further liberates doctors from routine, repetitive, low-value, and procedural tasks. The “AI Doctor Agent” deeply learns the physician’s professional knowledge, clinical reasoning, and communication style, enabling it to answer patient inquiries 24/7 and provide post-consultation management and services such as disease education, course-of-illness management, and medication reminders.

JD Health Unveils “JD Zhuoyi,” the First Large-Scale Model Product for Full-Scenario Hospital Applications, Breaking Down Hospital Information “Silos”

In his address at the “Digital Intelligence Healthcare” Conference, Jin Enlin emphasized that, regarding frontier technologies such as large language models (LLMs), JD Health places greater emphasis on how to drive their practical value in specific scenarios. Over the past year or more, JD Health’s self-developed “Jingyi Qianxun” medical LLM has become the vertical-domain large model with the richest application scenarios, the deepest hospital co-construction, the largest number of collaborating physicians, and the broadest user participation in the industry.

JD Health has long sought to open up these technologies, capabilities, and products—honed and validated over time—to serve a broader population.

Based on this, JD Health entered into a strategic partnership with the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (hereinafter referred to as “the First Affiliated Hospital of WMU”) at last year’s JD Health Digital Intelligence Healthcare Conference. Both parties announced their commitment to jointly build “Smart Services for Future Hospitals,” aiming to create a smart service system for next-generation smart hospitals that leads the nation.

At that time, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University outlined its vision for future smart hospital services, which included: establishing an AI Brain Command Center; leveraging artificial intelligence to reshape patient care services; utilizing data to assist physicians in efficient diagnosis and treatment, while supporting patients in disease management and health maintenance; and building smart wards both inside and outside the hospital to create a "hospital on the move."

Today, these visions are gradually becoming a reality.

Creating a Personal Healthcare Concierge to Revolutionize the Patient Experience

In hospital care settings, patients face multifaceted challenges spanning the entire care journey—pre-consultation, during consultation, and post-consultation—including issues such as “check-in and queuing,” “difficulty understanding medical reports,” and “time-consuming and labor-intensive follow-up visits.” JD Health’s Zhuoyi “Personal Healthcare Concierge,” an AI-powered healthcare solution designed for patients, covers the entire care process to truly reshape the patient experience, shifting from a model of “patients seeking services” to one where “services proactively reach patients.”

During the pre-consultation phase, the “Personal Healthcare Concierge” leverages patient inquiry information to facilitate online/offline triage and intelligently match patients with specialists in the appropriate departments, thereby helping them make informed healthcare decisions. During the consultation phase, it provides optimized care pathways and proactively delivers personalized services, truly embodying the principle of “letting data do the running so patients don’t have to.” In the post-consultation phase, it ensures the continuity of medical care, enabling patients to receive high-quality healthcare services even after leaving the hospital.

Building a “Digital Twin” Intelligent Assistant for Physicians to Enhance Diagnostic and Treatment Efficiency

Physicians at offline medical institutions, particularly those in tiered hospitals, are often extremely busy, seeing a large volume of patients and even repeatedly answering the same questions. Is it possible to liberate physicians from these burdens and further enhance their diagnostic and treatment efficiency?

In response, JD Health’s “Doctor Digital Avatar” can overcome the limitations of individual physicians’ capacity and significantly enhance their efficiency. By leveraging digital doctor personas and intelligent agents, physicians can collect patients’ disease information prior to consultations; improve the efficiency of consultations and follow-up visits through a “semi-autonomous driving” model; and deliver health education, thereby reducing communication burdens.

Building a “Super Brain” for Hospitals, Breaking Down the “Walls” of Hospital Management

In the process of building smart hospitals, in addition to implementing smart healthcare and smart services, it is also necessary to address smart management. JD Health’s “Future Digital Hospital” solution, designed for hospital management, provides an integrated AI solution for hospital operational management.

“Future Digital Hospital” can help hospitals achieve online-offline patient triage within the facility, maximize the utilization of physician resources, and provide operational strategy configuration and hospital management dashboards, enabling hospital administrators to gain a clear, at-a-glance view of hospital operations.

While facilitating the internal circulation within hospitals and breaking through technical information silos, JD Health’s comprehensive internet healthcare services provide optimal scenarios for hospitals’ “external circulation channels.” This enables hospitals to effectively manage and operate services across online and offline settings, within and beyond hospital premises, and in both private and public domains. By truly dismantling the “walls” that restrict the delivery of medical services, this approach fosters a dual internal-external circulation model for offline medical institutions, thereby expanding the boundaries of hospital services and achieving bidirectional patient conversion.

Over 180 Million Medical Consultations Annually: “Breaking Down Walls” Has Only Just Begun

As the primary gateway to internet-based healthcare, JD Internet Hospital recorded over 180 million consultations in 2024. Behind the continuous growth in consultation volume lies a steady rise in both physician and user satisfaction. Reportedly, the current user satisfaction rate for JD Internet Hospital has reached 98.4%.

In 2024, JD Health further bridged the online-offline divide and broke through the barriers limiting online medical service supply by expanding its offline business layout. Over the past year, JD Health opened its first new-model JD Pharmacy, launched its first TCM clinic under the “Zhiyetang” brand, and established JD Health Check-up Centers in Beijing’s Yizhuang and Fengtai districts, among other locations.

The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, which maintains a strategic partnership with JD Health to dismantle the information “walls” surrounding offline medical institutions, is also exploring a model that integrates virtual and physical hospitals to create a “hospital without walls.” It is reported that the daily active users of the “Wenzhou Medical University First Hospital” mobile app exceed 20,000, with smart healthcare services benefiting over one million individuals. In terms of AI applications, its pre-consultation digital doctors have served hundreds of thousands of patients, while AI physician assistants help doctors generate an average of 20,000 AI-assisted medical records per month. These achievements have repeatedly received recognition from relevant national authorities.

While JD Health has effectively dismantled the barriers to online medical service provision, expanded the boundaries of healthcare delivery, and broken down the information technology silos of offline hospitals, it is also acutely aware that achieving digital and intelligent transformation in the healthcare industry cannot be accomplished by a single entity alone; it requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders across the industry.

In this process, JD Health, leveraging its internet medical service capabilities, supply chain resources, and digital intelligence expertise, is further collaborating with ecosystem partners to build a technology, operations, and resource network that spans the entire healthcare system. By delivering highly practical, full-scenario healthcare solutions, JD Health is effectively breaking down the constraints on healthcare service supply and accelerating the dismantling of barriers in internet-based healthcare.

The future digital hospital, accessible at your fingertips and spanning the entire online-to-offline spectrum, may well be on its way.
