The Traditional Dilemma: The Drawbacks of Needle Injections Are Fully Exposed

The drawbacks of traditional needle injections are significant. Patients commonly exhibit needle phobia, leading to poor treatment adherence and limiting market penetration for pharmaceutical products. Furthermore, medical sharps waste generated by injections poses substantial disposal challenges. Such waste not only carries a high risk of needlestick injuries to healthcare workers but also requires specialized collection, transportation, and harmless disposal processes. The considerable human, material, and financial resources involved impose a heavy economic burden on healthcare institutions and society at large. Additionally, issues associated with traditional injections, such as pain and infection risks, adversely affect patient experience and constrain the development of pharmaceutical R&D enterprises. Zhang Yong, Head of the Growth Hormone Device Business Division at GenSci Pharmaceutical, stated, “GenSci has consistently adhered to the concept of integrating pharmaceuticals with medical devices, seeking to improve the injection experience. Our goal is to provide better services and enhance the experience for children during their growth and development. Improving patient experience is the direction pursued by our device division, which is why we chose to partner with Kuaishu'er.”

Technological Innovation: 20 Years of Forging a New Era of Needle-Free Innovation

Since 2005, Kuaishu'er Medical has been dedicated to the research and development of needle-free delivery technology. By applying principles of fluid dynamics, this technology precisely injects medication into the subcutaneous tissue as an ultra-fine liquid stream, reaching the predetermined depth within 0.3 seconds. This innovation significantly enhances patient medication experience and drug absorption efficiency, while also eliminating the generation of medical sharps waste, substantially reducing disposal costs, and enabling more rational utilization of healthcare resources. A global search revealed that among a total of 63 SCI-indexed publications related to needle-free injection, 56 were based on Kuaishu'er's technology. Backed by robust clinical evidence and collaborative efforts from top Chinese universities and relevant government departments, Kuaishu'er has achieved a series of major breakthroughs over 20 years of dedicated research, leveraging fluid dynamics and human subcutaneous simulation technologies. In 2014, China’s first independently developed QS-M needle-free injector, with proprietary intellectual property rights, received market approval, filling a domestic gap. Subsequently, the QS-P model and the child-specific QS-P Vibrant Color Edition were launched, serving hundreds of thousands of users. These advancements mark a comprehensive upgrade from injection devices to integrated injection systems, demonstrating the strength of China’s independent innovation in medical technology.

“Kuaishu'er is accelerating the joint development of combination drug-device products with major pharmaceutical companies both in China and abroad, speeding up the comprehensive localization and internationalization of needle-free products. This fully demonstrates the company’s strong momentum in innovation and its broad prospects for commercial application,” said Guo Meng, Deputy Director of the Biotechnology and Big Health Industry Bureau of the Economic-Technological Development Area, praising Kuaishu'er's innovative capabilities.

New Product Launch, Showcasing Strong Innovation Capabilities

At the summit, Kuaishu'er Medical leveraged the technological advantages of its “X Needle-Free Drug Delivery Technology Platform” to launch three new products exclusively on the JD.com platform, showcasing its innovation prowess. The special “Lilac Purple” edition addresses women’s needs, reflecting humanistic care in every detail. The QLINK system and accessories, developed based on AI, big data, and cloud storage concepts, enable intelligent upgrades for chronic disease injection diagnosis and treatment, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of medical services. The QS-X needle-free injection pen, a device-drug combination product, made its global debut through a partnership with JD.com. As a world-first technology that loads an entire cartridge of liquid medication into the pen for multiple doses, it is compatible with drugs packaged in the widely used global standard “3ml cartridge” format, resolving a long-standing industry challenge. During its development, 23 domestic and international patents were filed, setting a benchmark for the growth of China’s high-end medical device industry.

“The global medical device industry is currently undergoing unprecedented change, with technological innovation serving as the core driver of its development,” stated Yu Langbai, Deputy Director of the Production Supervision Division of the Beijing Municipal Medical Products Administration. “As a sunrise industry, the continuous emergence of technological innovations in the medical device sector has injected strong momentum into its growth, ushering in a rare and promising outlook for future development.”
