Geneus Technologies, a domestic leader in nanopore sequencing technology, recently announced the completion of its B++ round financing, raising nearly RMB 100 million. The round was led by Guosheng Capital (Chengdu Tianfu International Bio-City Investment Company), with Sichuan Venture Capital participating as a co-investor. The funds raised will be used to accelerate the commercialization of the world’s first “Single-Nucleotide Nanopore Sequencing” (SNS) technology platform and promote its large-scale application in clinical diagnostics, scientific research services, and public health. CEC Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor in this transaction, helping the company strengthen its technological barriers and market leadership.

Geneus Technologies: The Creator of the World's First SNS Sequencing Platform

Geneus Technologies, established in 2017, specializes in the research and development as well as industrial application of SNS sequencing technology with independent intellectual property rights. It is committed to providing high-precision, low-cost, fully automated, decentralized genetic testing solutions for clients across various fields. In 2024, the company launched G-seq500, the world’s first commercial sequencing platform based on SNS sequencing technology, which entered large-scale commercial use in the fourth quarter, marking China’s “overtaking on a bend” in the field of fourth-generation sequencing technology.

Technical Milestones and Core Advantages

High Precision: The G-seq500 single-molecule sequencing platform achieves a single-read accuracy of up to 99.9% (Q30), making it one of the most accurate single-molecule sequencing platforms available. It boasts an N50 read length exceeding 50 kb and a single-chip data throughput of 50 Gb.

Stable and Reusable Chips: A unique sequencing chip design, combined with an equipment-integrated automated microfluidic self-assembly system, achieves separation of the biochemical system from the sequencing chip. This addresses the stability pain points of traditional nanopore sequencing chips while enabling stable, repeated use of the sequencing chip (currently up to 10 times), significantly reducing startup costs. Furthermore, it fully automates the entire chip preparation and loading process, allowing "decentralized" customers to avoid sample pooling and achieve a flexible "test-on-arrival" model at the point of care.

CEO Su Yunpeng: Promoting the Democratization of Gene Sequencing Through Foundational Innovation

Dr. Su Yunpeng, Founder and CEO of Geneus Technologies, stated: “The vision and original mission of Geneus Technologies are to make gene sequencing technology a routine tool in fields such as precision medicine. The commercial launch of the G-seq500 is not only a technological breakthrough but also the beginning of an industrial paradigm revolution. By achieving breakthrough improvements in core performance metrics—including data quality, stability, startup costs, and level of automation—we enable actual users of sequencing data, such as hospitals at all levels, public laboratories, sequencing-related enterprises, and research institutions, to conduct high-precision gene sequencing on-site. As an upstream enterprise in the sequencing industry, we will continue to deepen our collaboration with numerous ecosystem partners, enhance the capability of the G-seq sequencing platform to meet customer needs, empower our partners with comprehensive solutions, and realize a closed loop of ‘technology–scenario–ecosystem.’ This will promote the application of SNS sequencing in more fields, provide high-quality solutions to more customers, and ultimately fulfill our corporate vision.”

4. Industrialization Base Nearing Completion:

In October 2024, Geneus Technologies commenced construction of its industrialization base for the nanopore sequencing platform in Chengdu, with a planned annual production capacity of 1,000 sequencers and testing reagents for 1.2 million individuals, fully meeting market demands in clinical and research settings. The facility is expected to be completed and commence operations in March 2025.

Investors Say

Guosheng Capital, the lead investor, stated: Geneus Technologies has achieved breakthroughs in high accuracy, high throughput, decentralization, and low cost through its independently developed tag-based nanopore sequencing technology. This advancement strongly promotes the domestic substitution of gene sequencing equipment and addresses the critical technological bottlenecks at their source. As Geneus Technologies’ downstream ecosystem continues to expand, it is poised to unlock broad market opportunities in both non-clinical and clinical settings. Guosheng Capital will continue to monitor the company’s development, providing multifaceted support and empowerment through innovative approaches.

Zhang Fan, Investment Director at Sichuan Venture Capital, stated: Geneus Technologies has initially demonstrated the feasibility of breaking the “impossible triangle” of “high accuracy, high efficiency, and low cost” in its gene sequencing solutions. Its advantages, such as long-read capabilities, real-time sequencing, and compact portability, have already shown unique strengths in certain niche markets. As the company advances its GMP manufacturing and commercialization efforts, and launches subsequent higher-throughput sequencing products, it is poised to disrupt the “centralized” market landscape and take center stage in the gene sequencing industry. Sichuan Venture Capital will continue to provide support and empowerment throughout the company’s growth journey.

Li Jin, Partner at CEC Capital, stated“Geneus Technologies is a benchmark enterprise in the wave of domestic substitution, possessing both technological innovation and commercialization capabilities. As the world’s first company to achieve commercial deployment of an SNS sequencing platform, its technological pathway is fully independent and controllable, with a 100% domestically sourced supply chain, holding strategic significance for China in breaking through the ‘chokehold’ bottlenecks in the upstream gene sequencing sector. We look forward to this round of financing helping the company accelerate the construction of a closed-loop ecosystem encompassing ‘instruments, reagents, and data,’ thereby becoming a core player in the global nanopore sequencing market.”
