Over the past decade, China’s healthcare innovation industry has experienced intense contrasts between warmth and cold. Some have encountered a commercialization chill amidst favorable policy currents, while others have felt the warmth of technological breakthroughs emerging during capital winters. VCBeat’s documentation of the growth trajectories of 10,410 innovative enterprises measures the shifting temperatures of this industry.

The “Top 100 Future Healthcare Companies” list, first published in 2016, vividly illustrates the survival rules of healthcare innovation through the trajectory of 3,964 listed companies.

For the business community, the “Top 100 Future Healthcare Companies” list serves less as a prize—offering no monetary award, only prestige—and more as a bellwether. With corporate valuation as its sole selection criterion, it guides the healthcare industry through winter and intense competition, helping it identify certainty that transcends economic cycles.

Every remarkable Chinese innovation deserves greater attention and more opportunities for exposure.Currently, the countdown has begun for submissions to the 2025 9th VBEF Future Healthcare & Pharma Top 100 Exhibition and the VBEF Future Healthcare Top 100 Awards. Stakeholders across the industry are encouraged to submit their applications actively, showcasing China’s innovative strength in the healthcare sector to the world.

243 Rankings and Awards: A Testament to Great Chinese Innovation

Under the VBEF Future Healthcare Top 100 Selection, there are two categories: the Future Healthcare Top 100 Ranking and the Future Healthcare Top 100 Innovation Awards. As of 2024, eight editions of the selection have released a total of 243 lists and awards, along with five "Top 100 Enterprises Growth Analysis Reports." A cumulative total of 3,964 companies have been listed, 880 organizations have received awards, and 414 individuals have been honored.

The selection has always adhered to one principle: private companies are ranked by valuation, without interference from other factors.

During the ranking selection period, the organizing committee conducts a comprehensive industry-wide survey of innovative enterprises, and releases the list only after multi-round, multi-party reviews have confirmed the companies’ valuations.

An independent and objective evaluation mechanism has established the ranking’s industry influence, attracting increasing participation from enterprises and investment institutions. Through the ranking, companies can gain insights into the growth status of peers in the same sector, fostering communication and competition; transparency between investors and fundraisers ensures well-founded valuations and more efficient matching of capital with projects.

Over 90 listed companies have successfully completed their IPOs, and 132 companies have remained on the list for three consecutive years with steadily rising valuations, underscoring that continuous innovation is the only true moat.

Over the past nine years, more than 90 companies featured on the list have completed their IPOs after being listed. Since 2022, among the 170+ companies that went public in the healthcare sector, 40 were previous listees, representing an IPO concentration rate of 24% (approximately one in every four), which underscores the list’s ability to identify high-potential innovative enterprises.

Among the companies featured in the rankings from 2021 to 2024, 132 enterprises appeared on the list for three consecutive years and demonstrated sustained growth in valuation. For instance, XtalPi, after being listed for four consecutive years, completed its initial public offering (IPO) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2024, with its AI-driven drug discovery platform technology gaining recognition from investors. Health Road, a “pioneer in internet healthcare,” appeared on the list for three consecutive years, and its successful IPO validated the innovative sustainability of its digital healthcare platform.

In 2024, 129 new entrants made the list, marking the rise of new forces in medical innovation.

The 2024 Top 100 Future Healthcare Companies list features 129 newcomers that have never appeared on the list before, rising rapidly due to their technological uniqueness and reflecting the rapid iteration speed of medical innovation in China.

The high concentration of IPOs, the sustained growth of companies consistently featured on the list, and the identification of emerging forces in medical innovation not only validate the scientific rigor of the ranking but also reflect the transformation of China’s healthcare industry from “follow-on innovation” to “original innovation.”

With the “Growth Analysis Report of Top 100 Enterprises” as the vehicle, the value of listed enterprises is more fully demonstrated.

The “Top 100 Companies’ Growth Report” was also released in conjunction with the ranking, summarizing the growth patterns of listed companies and trends in industry evolution, thereby providing reference and insights for healthcare enterprises and entrepreneurs.

The ranking and enterprises empower each other: the ranking serves as a platform to showcase corporate value, while its own worth is demonstrated through the genuine growth of these companies.

“Innovation Award” Selection Upgrade: Triple Criteria Validate Core Value

After nine years of practice and exploration, the selection system for the Future Healthcare 100 has become increasingly refined, gradually evolving into a global evaluation framework for innovative healthcare ecosystems that encompasses multiple dimensions, including enterprises, investment institutions, medical institutions, and industrial parks.

Changes to the List Categories for the Future Healthcare Top 100 (Red text indicates categories adjusted or added in 2025)

The most significant change in the 2025 “Innovation Award” lies in:The award module classification for Institutional Awards, Park Awards, and Product Awards has shifted from “Niche Tracks” to “Value Validation.”

On the capital side, the industry is moving away from “sector labeling” toward a holistic assessment of capabilities across the entire investment lifecycle—fundraising, investing, managing, and exiting. Only patient capital that truly understands the non-linear growth patterns of medical innovation can forge resilient value capable of bridging the “valley of death.”

From an industry perspective, the evaluation criteria for innovation parks are undergoing a qualitative shift from being “providers of physical space” to “ecosystem enablers.” Operational systems that bridge the last mile of technology transfer and facilitate the circulation of innovation factors serve as the core hubs of new healthcare infrastructure.

The logic behind this is:Only innovations that withstand the triple validation of “clinical benefit + commercial sustainability + ecosystem feedback” can be defined as true breakthrough forces.

All the Trends in China’s Medical Innovation Are on This List

In 2025, the upgraded Future Healthcare 100 list will reach new heights in terms of innovation coverage dimensions, as well as the volume of enterprise nominations and selections. With 500 listed companies and over 200 innovation awards, this underscores the rising industry influence of the VBEF awards.

Meanwhile, supply chain innovation in pharmaceutical and medical device R&D, Chinese companies seizing the global high ground in innovation, and the overseas expansion of Chinese innovative products have become hot topics and definitive trends.

The “Top 100 Future Healthcare Companies” list, which chronicles the era, aims to reserve a rightful place in the annals of medical innovation for every Chinese innovation that truly represents the future of healthcare.
