As the premier benchmark competition in the Asia-Pacific region dedicated to digital dentistry innovation, the inaugural Digital Dentistry Innovation Challenge has gathered cutting-edge innovative forces from across the industry. Under the guidance of the Rizhao Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Rizhao Municipal People’s Government, and through the meticulous planning of the Administrative Committee of Rizhao High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the competition invited authoritative experts—including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, leading universities, top-tier Grade A tertiary hospitals, and prominent investment institutions—to form a professional judging panel, garnering widespread attention from all sectors of the industry.
After rigorous screening and strict evaluation, 26 high-potential, innovative projects have emerged as finalists. These selected projects not only highlight the vitality and promising prospects of the digital dentistry industry but also represent the cutting-edge innovation within China’s digital dentistry sector. In the coming days, we will sequentially showcase these outstanding entrepreneurial ventures and innovative teams, helping you stay attuned to the pulse of industry innovation.

Beijing Rouzhiyuan Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Rouzhiyuan"), an innovative enterprise dedicated to the field of oral health, focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence and robotics technology, striving to develop globally leading home-use anti-caries solutions. Its independently developed anti-caries robot leverages AI-based "hand-eye coordination" technology to provide users with precise oral care services, addressing the challenge of residual plaque in blind spots associated with traditional products such as electric toothbrushes. As the world’s first intelligent oral care device, this product has secured 15 patents along its key technological innovation pathway (five of which have been granted), was selected for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's "Top 100 High-Value Patents," and received the First Prize in China’s medical device sector. Currently, the engineering prototype has successfully completed development and validation, and industrial design optimization is underway, with commercial launch scheduled for August 2025.
From a micro-technical perspective, current oral care faces three major challenges: First, changes in dietary structure driven by improved living standards have led to increased sugar intake, thereby elevating the risk of dental caries. Second, existing cleaning methods suffer from significant blind spots; users often repeat brushing motions indiscriminately without focusing on hard-to-clean areas. Third, due to concerns about gum damage, traditional products such as electric toothbrushes avoid intensive cleaning because they cannot differentiate between dental plaque and gingival tissue. The essence of this issue lies in the inability of traditional technologies to effectively resolve the conflict between plaque removal and gum protection, resulting in residual plaque and subsequent oral diseases.

Building on this, Rouzhiyuan has successfully addressed this challenge through technological innovation. Its proprietary “Dental Cleaning Probe” system highly integrates an endoscope, a robotic arm, and a cleaning device within the standard footprint of a conventional toothbrush head. Coupled with its oral visual recognition model, the device can accurately differentiate between gingiva and dental calculus. The self-developed micro-robotic arm automatically targets and cleans, eliminating the need for difficult manual alignment and delicate operation, thereby reducing uncertainties caused by human factors and achieving more stable and comprehensive cleaning. The product establishes a closed-loop system of “AI Recognition – Mechanical Intervention – Efficacy Assessment,” fully covering the entire care workflow of “Risk Detection – Precise Intervention – Efficacy Verification.”
In terms of product feature expansion, Rouzhiyuan’s anti-caries robot has constructed a multi-dimensional ecosystem for oral health management. Leveraging real-time imaging data captured by the device, the system establishes health records and personalized oral care plans, intelligently selecting the optimal force and targeting high-risk areas that require the most attention. The gamified interaction system developed specifically for children effectively promotes the cultivation of good dental hygiene habits. This data-driven intelligent service model endows the device with continuous health management capabilities comparable to those of a “private dentist” in developed countries.

The product’s inception is underpinned by the R&D team’s robust technical expertise and industry insights. Led by Dr. Wang Hu from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the team has developed AI-driven dermatology products that have served over one million users, with 87 patents filed to date through continuous innovation. The team brings together dental specialists from top-tier (Grade A tertiary) hospitals, seasoned professionals from the consumer electronics sector, and operational management talent from Fortune 500 companies, thereby establishing a composite capability in both technological R&D and commercialization.
In terms of commercialization strategy, Rouzhiyuan adopts a synergistic approach targeting both consumer (C-end) and business (B-end) markets, aiming to achieve multi-dimensional reach through crowdfunding platforms, new media matrices, e-commerce channels, and offline partnerships. In the B-end sector, the company will prioritize ecological collaborations with dental hospitals and insurance institutions, building an Apple-like ecosystem centered on “devices + data + services.” Meanwhile, the company plans to collaborate with medical institutions to conduct clinical efficacy validation studies, continuously enhancing product performance. According to its projections, annual sales of its caries-prevention robots are expected to exceed 20 million units by 2030, achieving market penetration comparable to that of electric toothbrushes, thereby providing users with more efficient targeted oral care and disease prevention services. Currently, the company seeks angel investment to accelerate product iteration and market promotion.
RouZhiYuan’s vision extends beyond mere product sales; it is committed to driving the digital transformation of the oral health industry through technological innovation, enabling the next generation to say goodbye to dental caries and achieve the health goal of “maintaining a healthy set of teeth at age 80.” This development philosophy, which integrates cutting-edge technology with humanistic care, serves as the core driver propelling change in the oral health industry.
Of course, this also raises a deeper industry question: as toothbrushing evolves from empirical repetition to data-driven precision intervention, is the millennia-old human battle against dental caries approaching a new critical point of phase transition? It is worth reflecting on how many unbroken cognitive barriers still separate us from achieving the ultimate goal of “preventive healthcare” in an era of accelerating breakthroughs in medical technology.
Perhaps, in an era where dental medical technology is undergoing exponential evolution, the value anchor of anti-caries robots may lie not in replacing toothbrushes, but in reconstructing the causal equation of overall oral health management.
