A globally leading AI technology has been first implemented in Chinese health checkup institutions. On May 22, Meinian Onehealth Healthcare Holdings Co., Ltd. and Alibaba DAMO Academy held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Shanghai. Leveraging the “One-Scan Multi-Detection” medical AI technology developed by DAMO Academy, both parties will jointly explore screening for various critical diseases, including cancer and chronic conditions, and collaborate in areas such as intelligent health examination services. Yu Rong, Chairman of Meinian Onehealth, and Zhang Jianfeng, Dean of DAMO Academy, attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing.

DAMO Academy, Alibaba Group’s hub for scientific research and talent, pioneered the “One Scan, Multiple Checks” medical AI technology internationally. This technology identifies multiple lesions difficult for the human eye to detect through a single non-contrast CT scan. It has been applied to cancers such as pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, colorectal, and liver cancer; chronic conditions including osteoporosis and fatty liver disease; and acute conditions such as aortic syndromes. Notably, for pancreatic cancer—the malignant tumor with the highest mortality rate—DAMO’s AI model achieved a sensitivity of 92.9% and a specificity of 99.9%, marking the first time the international challenge of large-scale early screening has been overcome. The related research was published in the top-tier journal Nature Medicine and hailed as “poised to usher in a golden age of imaging AI for cancer screening.”

Previously, DAMO Academy’s “One-Scan, Multi-Check” medical AI technology engaged in research collaborations with numerous public Grade A tertiary hospitals across China and partnered with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Digital Health to promote its adoption in more developing countries. As the first line of defense in health management, physical examinations are crucial for the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Following the collaboration between DAMO Academy and Meinian Onehealth, multi-cancer screening AI technology has been validated in physical examination settings for the first time. Joint tests conducted by both parties demonstrated that DAMO’s AI could still accurately identify findings in low-dose chest CT images commonly used by physical examination institutions, with key indicators reaching industry-leading levels. This advancement holds promise for expanding early screening coverage to a broader asymptomatic population, thereby safeguarding public health.

Yu Rong stated, “Meinian Onehealth Group has always adhered to the core philosophy of ‘customer-centricity,’ actively embracing full-chain AI technologies to continuously enhance diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, thereby serving a wider range of personalized health needs. ‘AI + Healthcare’ has moved from the stage of technological exploration into a period of substantive breakthroughs characterized by large-scale application. We look forward to collaborating with DAMO Academy on innovative initiatives to bring more star AI-powered medical products to our extensive user base.”

It is reported that DAMO Academy has been strategically positioned in medical AI since its inception, with related achievements published in international journals such as Nature Medicine and Nature Communications, as well as presented at top academic conferences including CVPR, MICCAI, and IPMI. In April 2025, DAMO Academy’s AI model for pancreatic cancer screening was designated as a “Breakthrough Device” by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
