On January 13 this year, Aier Eye Hospital and Meituan Medicine & Health officially entered into a strategic partnership, jointly launching the China “You” Vision Public Welfare Initiative. This initiative aims to comprehensively safeguard the eye health of 100 million people through strategic collaboration and public welfare efforts, with a particular focus on myopia prevention and control in adolescents, pediatric eye diseases, adult refractive errors, and age-related eye conditions. Recently, at the 20th-anniversary celebration of Shanghai Aier Eye Hospital, the “You” Vision Initiative officially announced its full-year schedule of activities for this year, marking the formal launch of the project.

“For delivery riders, prolonged exposure to outdoor elements such as wind and sun, combined with extended mobile phone use, poses numerous threats to eye health, including visual fatigue and dry eye syndrome. Safeguarding eye health is therefore of paramount importance. Among the many public welfare initiatives we have launched to care for riders’ health, this specialized campaign in collaboration with professional institutions marks our first such effort,” said a representative from Meituan’s Kangaroo Baby Public Welfare Program. For many rider families living away from their hometowns with their children, work commitments often prevent them from providing full-time companionship. Coupled with increased academic burdens and a lack of education on proper eye care, these children are also experiencing similar issues, such as myopia. Consequently, the “Excellent Vision” public welfare program will initially focus on addressing the eye health concerns of both riders and their children, striving to provide relevant support to rider families.

It is understood that the “You” Vision Program will be rolled out in three phases throughout the year and gradually expanded nationwide. The inaugural events are scheduled to launch in late May in cities such as Beijing and Chongqing, providing delivery riders and their children with free, targeted services including vision examinations and ocular disease screenings. These initiatives aim to precisely assess the ocular health status of riders. On-site, professional ophthalmologists will offer tailored treatment recommendations based on screening results and establish exclusive personal eye health records for each participating rider, ensuring they can promptly understand their ocular conditions and take appropriate measures. Follow-up services will be provided to riders on a regular basis, facilitating early prevention, early screening, early treatment, and continuous tracking management, thereby safeguarding the long-term eye health of delivery riders.

Furthermore, in response to the high prevalence of myopia among adolescents, Aier Eye Hospital’s science popularization centers across various regions will launch diverse educational activities under the “Children and Adolescent Eye Health Care Month” initiative, specifically addressing the eye health needs of delivery riders and their children. In addition to providing free eye screenings for riders’ children, professional ophthalmologists will visit Meituan’s “Kangaroo Baby Homes” to deliver lectures on myopia prevention and control and stage educational fairy-tale plays. These efforts aim to guide children in developing healthy visual habits, emphasizing early intervention, attention to young age groups, and focus on key factors to reduce the incidence of myopia at its source. Certified optometrists will also provide one-on-one precise refraction services and offer personalized eyeglass prescription solutions based on each child’s ocular condition and visual requirements.

Feng Jun, Vice President of Aier Eye Hospital Group, stated, “The ‘You’ Vision Public Welfare Initiative fully leverages the company’s capabilities and platform ecosystem to help new forms of workers, such as delivery riders, address eye health issues often overlooked during work and child-rearing. We also aim to provide a full-chain public welfare cooperation model of ‘screening, education, and assistance’ for the medical and healthcare industry, thereby offering tangible support to patient groups, including delivery riders, and contributing to enhancing people’s well-being and building a shared community of ecological health.”

In response, the head of Meituan Medicine and Health’s eye health division stated that the official launch of the “Excellent” Vision Public Welfare Initiative not only marks a deepening of the strategic partnership between Meituan Medicine and Health and Aier Eye Hospital, but also, with the support of Aier Eye Hospital’s professional expertise, Meituan Medicine and Health will continue to serve as a bridge, further connecting ecosystem partners and all sectors of society to actively promote the implementation of welfare benefits for new employment groups such as delivery riders, thereby providing health care and tangible assistance to more workers in new forms of employment.
