Amid the deepening implementation of the Healthy China strategy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is embracing new opportunities for high-quality development. On July 4, Beijing Tongrentang Medical and Healthcare formally entered into a strategic partnership with Meituan Medicine and Health. The two parties will explore in-depth collaboration in areas such as the supply of TCM health products, online consultations with renowned TCM experts, and the promotion of TCM culture, thereby enhancing the accessibility of TCM health services. Following the launch of this partnership, more than 20 medical institutions under Beijing Tongrentang Medical and Healthcare, including Beijing Tongrentang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will fully join the Meituan platform.

As the core segment of Tongrentang Group’s “1+N” strategic layout for the comprehensive health industry, Beijing Tongrentang Medical and Elderly Care leverages the brand’s 356-year heritage. Upholding the corporate spirit of “Cultivating Benevolence and Virtue, Serving Society and Promoting Health,” and adhering to the time-honored motto that “No effort shall be spared in processing, no matter how complex; no material shall be reduced, no matter how costly,” it continuously drives innovative development in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services. Currently, Beijing Tongrentang Medical and Elderly Care has established more than 20 medical institutions across multiple regions in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shanxi. Its affiliated “Tongrentang TCM” internet hospital brings together over 1,000 TCM experts, having served hundreds of thousands of patients, thereby building an integrated smart healthcare service system that combines online and offline resources.

Under the cooperation agreement, Beijing Tongrentang Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) will launch promotional group-buying deals and seasonal wellness campaigns after going live on Meituan, making specialized services such as TCM-based weight management, Sanfu herbal patches, and health-focused herbal tea substitutes more accessible to meet diverse user needs. In terms of promoting TCM culture, both parties will jointly organize diverse offline activities, including pop-up events and free community clinics, to enhance the public’s understanding of TCM. Furthermore, the two sides will explore in-depth collaboration in upgrading online diagnosis and treatment services, hosting live health education sessions, providing expert online consultations, and expanding the supply of innovative TCM health products, with the aim of creating an integrated online-to-offline one-stop TCM health service platform.

Zhang Yang, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Tongrentang Medical and Health Investment Co., Ltd., stated, “This collaboration represents an innovative integration between a century-old time-honored brand and an internet platform. Beijing Tongrentang Medical and Health will fully leverage its professional advantages in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) healthcare to jointly explore new models of TCM services with Meituan, contributing TCM wisdom to the construction of a Healthy China.”

According to data from the National Health Commission, the number of visits to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) medical institutions across China reached 1.54 billion in 2023, accounting for nearly 20% of the total volume of medical services. Driven by multiple factors, including shifts in demographic structure and the trend of “cyber wellness” among young people, the TCM health and wellness market continues to expand. In particular, expanding the base of young users and developing integrated online-to-offline TCM health services have become a consensus strategy for the transformation of TCM clinics.

It is reported that Meituan Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has established a one-stop service loop, covering the entire process of online appointment registration, offline initial consultation, online follow-up visits, online prescription and home delivery, as well as in-store physical therapy. In 2024, the transaction volume of online TCM services on Meituan Medicine and Health increased by 139% year-on-year. Among users of TCM wellness services, those under the age of 40 accounted for over 80%, making it an important platform driving the rejuvenation of TCM wellness. "We look forward to partnering with Beijing Tongrentang Medical Care to provide convenient and high-quality TCM health services to a broader user base through an integrated online-offline service model," said Xu Rongcong, Head of the Integrated Medical Business Department at Meituan Medicine and Health.
