As national health awareness rises, consumer demand for health services such as oral care and myopia correction continues to grow. Data from Meituan Medicine and Health shows that since July this year, searches for keywords like “orthodontics” and “myopia surgery” on the platform have increased by 45% year-on-year, while orders for dental clinics and ophthalmology institutions have surged by over 60%. Industry experts point out that driven by both advancements in consumer healthcare technology and evolving consumption concepts, health spending is shifting from “essential medical treatment” toward “quality enhancement,” fueling a sustained rise in “household health consumption.”

“Summer vacation is the golden window for students to undergo orthodontic treatment and vision correction, as well as a concentrated period for heads of households to manage their families’ health,” said the head of a Beijing-based chain dental clinic. Orders from July to August typically account for more than 30% of the annual total, with children’s invisible aligners and fluoride varnish applications being the most popular services.

To better meet family health consumption demands, Meituan Medicine and Health has once again ramped up its “Worry-Free Purchase” campaign in August, partnering with over 20,000 dental and ophthalmology clinics to offer back-to-school benefits for parents with school-aged children. Consumers can search for “Parents’ Worry-Free Purchase” on the Meituan App to access the campaign page and claim initial benefits, including optometry exams and fluoride treatments. Additionally, Meituan has collaborated with renowned brands such as Aier Eye Hospital, Bolin Eye Hospital, Beitong Eye Hospital, Shenbo Dental, and Zhongjia Dental to launch a special zone dedicated to comprehensive “Bright Eyes and Healthy Teeth” protective knowledge for children. Through educational content, this initiative provides parents with full-cycle prevention strategies for pediatric oral and eye care, helping heads of households select high-quality dental and ophthalmic health services.

Meituan data shows that among users of oral and ophthalmic health management services, parents purchasing related health services for their children are the primary consumers, predominantly women aged 25–35 in first-tier and new first-tier cities. Additionally, the proportion of orders from second-, third-, and lower-tier cities increased by 12% year-on-year, reflecting a trend of health consumption demand extending to lower-tier markets.

In recent years, the National Health Commission has continuously advanced special campaigns on “myopia prevention and control” for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as “oral health.” Some cities have included dental treatment in pilot programs for medical insurance coverage. Meanwhile, the widespread adoption of technologies such as femtosecond laser surgery and digital orthodontics has lowered psychological barriers for consumers. “Meituan recently partnered with leading oral care and ophthalmology brands to launch this special subsidy program and science popularization section for oral and eye health, aiming to provide more affordable and professional health consumption services for teenagers and their families,” said a representative responsible for the relevant business.
