Wang Xiaogang Appointed Director and Party Secretary of the Center for Drug Evaluation, NMPA

On August 28, according to information from the official website of the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) under the National Medical Products Administration, Wang Xiaogang assumed the positions of Director and Party Secretary of the Center. The previous Director was Zhou Siyuan.

According to the official website, Wang Xiaogang previously served as Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Center for Food and Drug Inspection and Verification of the National Medical Products Administration (National Vaccine Inspection Center).

The main responsibilities of the Center for Food and Drug Inspection and Verification of the National Medical Products Administration include organizing the formulation and revision of inspection regulations, standards, and technical documents for drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics; undertaking certification inspections and related supervisory inspections for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in non-clinical drug studies, as well as supervisory inspections of drug clinical trial institutions; conducting verification inspections for drug registration and for-cause inspections during the research, development, and production stages of drugs, as well as overseas inspections of drugs; and conducting for-cause inspections during the research, development, and production stages of vaccines, routine production inspections of vaccines and blood products, and overseas inspections of vaccines.

According to public records, Zhou Siyuan graduated from the School of Public Health at Tongji Medical University in 1990 with a Master of Medicine degree. From 1990 to 2006, he served as a reviewer in the Clinical Review Group, Head of the Clinical Section for Chemical Drugs and Biological Products, Deputy Director of the Department of Review Management and Coordination, and Director of the Department of Review Management and Coordination at the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE). From 2006 to 2011, he held the positions of Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Division of the General Office and Deputy Director of the Administrative Acceptance Service Center at the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA). From 2011 to 2015, he served as Director of the Cadre Division under the Department of Personnel at the SFDA. From 2015 to 2018, he was Deputy Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation under the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA). From 2018 to August 2023, he served as Deputy Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation at the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). From August 2023 to August 2025, he served as Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation at the National Medical Products Administration.
