JD Health and Wuhan Union Hospital Deepen Collaboration with Immersive Cardiac Health Art Exhibition on World Heart Day

On September 28, as World Heart Day approached, the “Heart Mystery Art Exhibition,” co-hosted by JD Health and Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “Wuhan Union Hospital”), officially opened in Wuhan. Breaking away from the traditional one-way dissemination model of health education, this exhibition presented the public with an immersive journey of cardiac exploration through tangible and perceptible art installations that convey professional medical knowledge. It represents a significant social practice in innovating the format of medical science popularization and enhancing public health awareness. On the afternoon of the same day, JD Health and Wuhan Union Hospital held a cooperation signing ceremony, announcing that they would deepen their collaboration in areas such as smart outpatient services, telemedicine, and science communication, jointly exploring new models of “Internet + Healthcare” services to facilitate broader public access to high-quality medical resources.

“Heart Maze Art Exhibition,” inspired by the concept that “the heart is a labyrinth,” transforms cardiac structure and function into an interactive physical experience for the public, breaking down barriers to the dissemination of specialized medical knowledge. This large-scale popular science installation, standing on the banks of the Yangtze River with an outline strikingly resembling a human heart, covers an area of over 300 square meters and rises 6 meters high. By merging life sciences with art, it has attracted long queues of visitors and become Wuhan’s latest viral hotspot. The exhibition will run from September 28 to October 3.

At the “Heart Enigma Art Exhibition,” JD Health partnered with Wuhan Union Hospital to design four themed sections—“Open and Close,” “Joyful Movement,” “Full Bloom,” and “Listening”—corresponding respectively to the opening and closing of heart valves, exercise load, cardiac structure, and the rhythm of the heartbeat. Through diverse interactive experiences such as holographic imaging, a co-created heartbeat wall, and engaging science popularization activities, the exhibition has built an important bridge for the public to understand heart health. Visitors can intuitively grasp the working mechanism of heart valves through giant petal installations. Over the past two decades, Professor Dong Nianguo’s team from the Department of Cardiac and Great Vessel Surgery at Wuhan Union Hospital successfully pioneered a globally original cellularization technology for valve materials, developing the world’s first novel cellularized heart valve. This innovation has been applied in clinical patients undergoing pulmonary valve replacement and other procedures, and has been incorporated into international guidelines. On-site, attendees can wear interactive devices to perceive changes in their heartbeat during exercise and view the “D-minicor,” the world’s smallest magnetically levitated ventricular assist device (VAD) pioneered by Professor Dong Nianguo’s team. Weighing only 45 grams, this device fills an international gap in ventricular assistance for young pediatric patients. The first global batch of clinical implants was completed in April this year, demonstrating favorable outcomes.

In his address, Xiang Qing, a Second-Level Inspector at the Hubei Provincial Health Commission, stated that this science popularization art exhibition represents an innovative practice in the construction of "Healthy Hubei." By integrating professional medical knowledge into public spaces through artistic forms, the exhibition has effectively enhanced the reach and appeal of health education. He fully affirmed the beneficial explorations undertaken by Wuhan Union Hospital and JD Health in promoting the decentralization of high-quality medical resources and innovating health service models, expressing hope that such cross-sector collaborations would provide a new paradigm for health promotion efforts across the province.

A senior executive from JD Health’s internet healthcare division stated at the event that cardiovascular health is the cornerstone of national well-being, vital to the happiness of countless families, and a critical component in achieving the ambitious goals of “Healthy China.” Therefore, by hosting the “Heart Mystery Art Exhibition,” JD Health aims to deeply integrate art with science popularization, making professional medical and health knowledge tangible, accessible, and interactive. This initiative seeks to embed the concepts of proactive health management, early prevention, and evidence-based treatment into public consciousness, bringing these principles truly closer to the people.

Xia Jiahong, President of Wuhan Union Hospital, attended the opening ceremony and stated that the “Heart Enigma Art Exhibition” represents a significant joint initiative by Wuhan Union Hospital and JD Health to translate specialized medical knowledge into language accessible to the general public. Cardiovascular disease poses the greatest threat to the health of Chinese residents. Through this innovative approach, we aim to encourage greater public awareness and scientifically grounded responses, thereby maximizing the prevention or mitigation of cardiac conditions. Wuhan Union Hospital will continue to uphold its responsibilities as a national leader in healthcare, persistently tackling challenges in the field of cardiovascular disease and striving to safeguard public health with the highest level of medical expertise.

That afternoon, both parties also held a cooperation signing ceremony at Wuhan Union Hospital. This collaboration represents a deep upgrade built upon solid prior achievements. Since its launch in May, the jointly established telemedicine center has enabled more than 10,000 patients across 29 provinces in China—particularly those in regions with relatively scarce medical resources—to access professional services from top-tier experts, effectively alleviating the difficulty of seeking medical care. Previously conducted online free clinics and popular science live broadcasts have reached over 300,000 viewers with health education content.

Based on this, both parties announced that they will engage in deep collaboration centered around three core areas. First, they will deepen the joint development of telemedicine centers, deeply integrating the clinical specialties of Wuhan Union Hospital with the technological capabilities of JD Health to break through temporal and spatial limitations in accessing medical resources. Second, they will jointly build a nationally leading smart outpatient patient service platform, committed to advancing the deployment and application of the “JD Zhuoyi” large model product across multiple hospital business scenarios, thereby further enhancing the patient healthcare experience and constructing an integrated online-offline patient service system. Meanwhile, the two parties will collaborate on medical science popularization content, leveraging JD Health’s channels and resources to disseminate professional medical education materials from Wuhan Union Hospital, helping to raise public health awareness.
