From November 21 to 23, 2025, an in-depth dialogue on pharmaceutical innovation and clinical translation will take place in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone (hereinafter referred to as “Lecheng Pilot Zone”) in Hainan. The 4th Boao International Conference on Real-World Studies of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices (hereinafter referred to as the “Real-World Study Conference”), together with the inaugural Hainan Boao Lecheng Global Innovative Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Expo (hereinafter referred to as the “Expo”), will adopt a novel “dual-event synergy” format, delivering a feast of ideas and achievements for the healthcare sector in China and around the world.

This is no ordinary industry conference. As China’s only “medical special zone,” the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone has remained at the forefront of medical policy innovation and clinical practice exploration since its approval in 2013.

In 2019, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and the Hainan Provincial Government jointly launched a pilot program for the application of real-world data in clinical settings, positioning Boao Lecheng as the “premiere stage” and “hub for evidence translation” for international pharmaceuticals and medical devices entering China. From 2022 to 2024, the successful hosting of three Real-World Study Conferences has established the event as a key platform for gaining insights into regulatory trends, linking global resources, and facilitating the market entry of pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

So, why is this grand event worth looking forward to?

The expo focuses on 12 leading specialties, including oncology, neurology and neurosurgery, hepatobiliary surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and dermatology, facilitating precise alignment from “exhibition booths” to “hospital wards.”

From 2022 to 2024, with the strong support and guidance of the National Medical Products Administration, the Boao Lecheng Pilot Zone successfully hosted three editions of the Boao International Conference on Real-World Study of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices.

The conference invited speakers from international organizations such as the WHO, ICH, and CIOMS; regulatory authorities including China’s NMPA, the US FDA, the EU EMA, Japan’s PMDA, and Singapore’s HSA; as well as guests from domestic and foreign research institutes and universities, and multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

“Seeing the Future” Exhibition: The Expo will unveil nearly 100 internationally innovative drugs, medical devices, special foods, and new biomedical technological achievements, and will release for the first time the White Paper on the Introduction and Application of Clinically Urgent Drugs and Medical Devices in the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone.

As of October 2025, 523 types of internationally innovative drugs and medical devices have achieved their “first use in China,” including 183 drugs and 340 medical devices.

Real-world data from Lecheng has supported the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in granting marketing authorization for 21 innovative drug and medical device products, with three of these products included in the National Reimbursement Drug List. As China’s first “NMPA Scientific Research Base for Drug and Medical Device Regulation” in the field of real-world data, Lecheng also serves as a vital hub for global exchange and cooperation in the healthcare industry.

After reviewing the innovative achievements that represent the future, it is even more essential to delve into the scientific core that drives the translation of these achievements.

In addition to the China debuts of internationally innovative products, the event featured discussions on global trends in innovative pharmaceuticals and medical devices, high-quality introduction, application transformation empowerment, and clinical application standards, structured around a “training session + standing expert committee” format.
