Guided by the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Journalism and the Hainan Provincial Medical Academic Exchange Management Center, and hosted by the Health Communication Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Journalism and the Beijing Chen Jumei Public Welfare Foundation, with support from the Hainan Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Wenchang Municipal People’s Government, and the Hainan Medical Association, the 2025 inaugural Health Technology and Science Popularization Conference has launched the selection of “Annual Outstanding Science Popularization Communicators” and “Annual Outstanding Science Popularization Works.” The call for submissions for these awards has recently concluded. This initiative aims to thoroughly implement the “Healthy China” strategy and promote the high-quality development of health science popularization.

Since its launch, the call for submissions has garnered an enthusiastic response, attracting widespread attention and active participation from over 100 applicants across more than 50 medical institutions, technology enterprises, universities, and science popularization creation teams throughout China, thereby demonstrating broad engagement and innovative vitality in the field of health science communication.
Diverse Categories of Works:“Annual Outstanding Science Popularization Works” encompass various formats, including text and graphics, videos, audio, AI-generated content, science museums, and art exhibitions. Among these, video accounts for over 60%, making it the dominant form of science communication.
Rich Variety of Character Types:The “Annual Outstanding Science Communication Figure” award has attracted a diverse range of professionals, including clinicians, hospital-based science communication advocates, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, MCN agencies, and prominent science communicators, highlighting an equal emphasis on professional expertise and effective dissemination.
This call for submissions stood out for its highlights in content innovation, diverse formats, and technological integration, demonstrating the high-quality development trend in the field of health science popularization.
1. Outstanding Science Communicator of the Year: Professional Leadership, Powerful Dissemination
Medical institution professionals dominate the list of nominees for this individual award, with 75% hailing from hospitals and holding positions such as associate chief physicians, department heads, attending physicians, and pharmacists. The remaining 25% comprises industry practitioners and science communication bloggers, forming a diversified collaborative landscape that integrates “medical expertise, corporate communication, and grassroots practice.”
Communication Effectiveness: Top-Tier Influence Stands Out, Reaching Over 100 Billion
The performance metrics for individual influencer campaigns were impressive. In terms of viewership, the top corporate representative achieved over 90 billion total views across all online platforms, while the leading hospital applicant surpassed 3 billion views. The most-viewed single video reached 110 million views. Regarding follower base, three individuals represented institutions with more than 250 million followers, and 14 individuals had follower counts exceeding one million, achieving dual effects of broad public reach and precise target audience engagement.
Format of Popular Science: Exhibiting the Characteristics of “Mainstream Focus, Diversified Supplementation”
For the nominees, over 85% of their science communication content is in video format, distributed across platforms such as Douyin, Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book), and Bilibili, aligning with current users’ fragmented consumption habits. Articles, lectures, live streams, and free clinics serve as important supplements, while some individuals also employ distinctive formats such as books and situational dramas to cater to the diverse knowledge acquisition preferences of different audiences.
Overall, the applicant possesses both a solid professional background and effective communication skills, laying a firm foundation for the transition of health science popularization from “quantitative accumulation” to “qualitative improvement,” and setting a benchmark example of dual excellence in “professionalism + communication” for the industry.
2. Outstanding Annual Science Popularization Works: Innovative Formats, Practical Content
The diverse categories of submissions for this award highlight the significant contemporary characteristics and development trends of current health science popularization works in terms of content format, technological application, and dissemination strategies.
Diverse Formats Converge as Short Videos Become the Mainstream Medium
Among the submitted works, short videos accounted for the largest proportion, covering diverse themes such as disease prevention and control, first aid knowledge, and healthy lifestyles. More than ten individual videos achieved over 10 million views, precisely addressing public health concerns through intuitive demonstrations and accessible language. Furthermore, science popularization museums, art exhibitions, books, and interactive games have enriched the modes of science communication. Examples include the Liaoning Eye Health Science Popularization Museum and JD Health’s “Heart Puzzle Art Exhibition,” which have facilitated a transition in science popularization from “one-way dissemination” to “immersive experience.”
Deep Technological Empowerment: AIGC Enhances Content Efficiency
AI Technology Has Become a Key Driver of Innovation in Science Popularization. Ark Health’s “Xingshi Large Language Model” enables intelligent generation and precise dissemination of science popularization content, accumulating over 1.2 billion impressions; The First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University’s “Nezha Teaches Scientific Weight Loss” leverages AI-generated animated characters to enhance engagement and virality. Technological empowerment not only boosts content production efficiency but also strengthens the interactivity and personalization of science communication.

Health science popularization is not merely about disseminating knowledge, but also about guiding healthy behaviors and shaping a culture of health. The submission phase has now officially concluded, and the event will proceed to the evaluation stage.
