Themed “Gathering Through Innovation, Advancing Toward the New,” this national-level competition, hosted by the Torch High-Tech Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, held its finals in Hangzhou. The event was organized by the Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Since its launch in August 2025, the competition has attracted 891 project registrations from across China, covering six frontier fields: future materials, future manufacturing, future information, future energy, future space, and future health. Zhang Shouhua, Director of the Department of High-Tech Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), pointed out in his address that the rapid development of disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum information, and bio-manufacturing is becoming a crucial pathway for fostering future industries. He stated that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China attaches great importance to innovation in disruptive technologies, and the MIIT has strengthened its strategic layout in this area through measures such as the National Key R&D Program and the “open competition” mechanism for future industry innovation tasks. Project Overview: Original Technology, Global Leadership
At this competition, Hangzhou Weiner Anke’s core technological breakthroughs and industrialization capabilities with its “Pulse Regeneration, Weiner Empowerment – Weiner Knife Tumor Ablation System” received unanimous recognition from the judges and experts.
Cancer remains a global challenge that humanity is striving to overcome, with a severe treatment landscape. In 2000, our team pioneered a novel cancer therapeutic approach internationally by inducing irreversible electroporation (IRE) in tumor cells using high-voltage pulsed electric fields. This method offers the non-thermal selective advantage of ablating lesions while preserving healthy tissues such as major blood vessels and nerves, thereby breaking through clinical barriers associated with existing therapeutic technologies. Furthermore, its robust immunological response and ability to improve the solid tumor microenvironment position it as a highly effective tool for tumor debulking and as a potent enhancer of immunotherapy and cell therapy, holding broad clinical prospects.
Over more than two decades of sustained research, the team has continuously updated and iterated pulsed electric field technology in response to clinical needs, systematically addressing key clinical challenges. The team developed China’s first steep-pulse therapy device, the world’s first combined steep-pulse therapy device, and the world’s first broadband synergistic steep-pulse tumor treatment system (Vena Knife), all of which have been translated into industrial applications for clinical oncology.
The Weiner Knife represents the latest frontier in pulsed electric field ablation technology. It is the world’s first innovative medical device based on a novel method of wideband synergistic steep-pulse tumor ablation, designed for local ablation of tumors and tissues. This device achieves a clinical breakthrough by enabling procedures under local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Furthermore, it features the creatively designed first domestic single-needle irreversible electroporation (IRE) ablation electrode, facilitating a clinical paradigm shift from “multi-needle parallel” to “single-needle ablation.” Technically, it overcomes existing clinical challenges associated with intense muscle contraction and the need for multi-needle ablation. With its internationally pioneering working principle, the Weiner Knife leads globally in both theoretical foundation and technical implementation. Approved for use in medical institutions, it is indicated for the treatment of benign and malignant conditions in organs including the liver, pancreas, lungs, prostate, and thyroid.
Currently, the product has passed the registration testing for Class III medical devices conducted by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and has been approved as an innovative medical device by the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of the NMPA. To date, multi-center clinical trials involving more than 300 cases have been completed at over 20 renowned medical institutions in China, including Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Southwest Hospital, Beijing Youan Hospital, and Zhejiang Cancer Hospital. The results have been significant. The product will soon complete its industrial translation, establishing internationally leading core technologies, enhancing China’s independent innovation capability and international influence in high-end physical therapy equipment, and providing a new optional tumor treatment solution for clinical practice.
