On February 24, Novo Nordisk announced that, effective January 1, 2027, the company will reduce the list price (i.e., Wholesale Acquisition Cost, WAC) for Wegovy® (semaglutide) 2.4 mg injection and 25 mg tablets, Ozempic® (semaglutide) 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg injections, and Rybelsus® (semaglutide) 7 mg and 14 mg tablets, lowering the monthly cost from $1,350 to $675.
This means that the list prices for Wegovy® and Ozempic® will be reduced by approximately 50% and 35%, respectively, compared to current levels. Novo Nordisk emphasized that this decision applies to all dosages of these medications, reflecting the company’s commitment to enhancing affordability for patients as well as public and private payers, in response to the evolving complexities of the U.S. healthcare system.
Jamey Millar, Executive Vice President of Novo Nordisk’s U.S. operations, stated: “Reducing the list prices of Wegovy® and Ozempic® is the best way to address the treatment needs of more than 100 million people with obesity and over 35 million patients with type 2 diabetes in the United States, thereby seizing a significant opportunity. Both private and public payers, as well as patients, have expressed strong demand for these medications and have consistently called for lower list prices. Our action today is a direct response to this call.”
