Terumo BCT Unveils Asia-Pacific CGT Ecosystem Blueprint to Accelerate Scalable Cell and Gene Therapy Delivery

Mar 05, 2026 14:49 CST Updated 14:49

Singapore, March 5, 2026 – Terumo BCT today announced the release of its new blueprint for the Asia-Pacific cell and gene therapy (CGT) ecosystem. The blueprint aims to support CGT developers in the Asia-Pacific region in transitioning from early-stage research and development to scalable, reproducible clinical and commercial delivery through a pragmatic collaborative model.

Currently, the cell and gene therapy (CGT) sector in the Asia-Pacific region is experiencing rapid growth. However, many projects still face practical challenges in translating scientific achievements into stable, scalable manufacturing and operational capabilities. These challenges include fragmented production processes, high operational costs, a shortage of GMP-compliant professionals, and varying levels of maturity in regulatory frameworks and manufacturing systems across different markets.

This blueprint for the CGT ecosystem does not focus on a single technology or an isolated production step. Instead, it clearly outlines how to integrate key capabilities, core processes, and partners across the entire workflow—from cell collection and processing to clinical-scale manufacturing—to achieve effective collaboration, thereby streamlining complex procedures and supporting more cost-effective and scalable CGT development and production.

Currently, Terumo BCT will collaborate with regional partners and CGT developers to implement this blueprint across multiple real-world application scenarios, including:

● Collaborate with the Japan CiRA Foundation to develop standardized induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) workflows;

● GenScript provides upstream cell sorting and activation technologies, while EurekaBio integrates downstream process workflows—together with Terumo BCT, they have co-created an integrated, end-to-end CAR-T full-process solution;

● Partnered with South Korea’s KBIOHealth and Singapore’s ACTRIS to enhance regional GMP training and manufacturing capabilities.

Furthermore, Terumo BCT has partnered with clinical-stage CGT developers, including Precision BioSciences and Taiwan Bio Therapeutics Inc., to validate the adaptability and feasibility of its manufacturing solutions under real-world clinical production constraints. These partners have adopted this integrated manufacturing solution for CAR-T and regulatory T cell (Treg) therapies to address the limitations of existing processes, verifying its clinical suitability, process robustness, and scalability in real operational environments.

These cross-technology and cross-partner collaborative practices demonstrate that ecosystem integration can significantly reduce operational complexity and costs, while establishing a clear pathway for enhancing clinical and manufacturing capabilities under the diversified operating models in the Asia-Pacific region.

“The CGT ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region is maturing rapidly. While innovators are strengthening their local impact, they are also actively positioning themselves for global expansion,” said Dr. Wenyan Leong, Director of Commercial and Global Strategic Partnerships, Asia Pacific, at Terumo BCT. “Terumo BCT supports regional developers in building future-ready operational systems by introducing automation and standardization solutions already adopted in leading global markets. Our partners recognize that achieving commercialization and clinical delivery requires a shift from labor-intensive, fragmented processes to more integrated, higher-quality manufacturing systems. Our ecosystem blueprint serves as the operational foundation for this transformation, leveraging pre-validated pathways and collaborative networks to pragmatically and scalably advance regional innovation toward global commercial reality.”

Terumo Biotest’s CGT Ecosystem Blueprint Is Built Around Three Core Pillars:

● Highly adaptable manufacturing process: Can be flexibly adjusted according to different types of CGT therapies and development stages;

● Integration Capabilities and Production Capacity System: Streamlines GMP compliance processes, reduces quality variability, and lowers costs associated with scaling up production;

● Collaborative Execution Model: Facilitate the establishment of a collaborative mechanism among developers, technology providers, and regional partners centered on shared “clinical and manufacturing readiness goals.”

Li Lei, Vice President of Terumo BCT Asia Pacific, stated, “Our focus is not on providing ‘one-size-fits-all’ solutions, but on empowering CGT developers to build truly viable production systems within their specific operational environments. By presenting the design logic of the ecosystem more clearly, we aim to support more predictable pathways to scale-up, ultimately enabling greater patient access to advanced therapies.”

As CGT projects continue to expand across the Asia-Pacific region, Terumo BCT is shaping its CGT ecosystem blueprint into an industry reference framework, helping relevant enterprises and institutions move beyond fragmented approaches toward a new phase of more collaborative and scalable CGT delivery.
