Simcere Announces Key Executive Changes: Zhou Yunshu Appointed CEO; Founder Ren Jinsheng to Focus on Strategic Leadership as ChairmanRecently, Simcere issued an announcement formally revealing two core personnel adjustments: Zhou Yunshu has been appointed as the company’s Chief Executive Officer, effective from the date of the announcement; Ren Jinsheng, the company’s founder, will no longer serve as CEO but will continue in his roles as Chairman and Executive Director, focusing on formulating the group’s long-term strategy, making major investment decisions, and overseeing board duties.

Zhou Yunshu, 54, has over three decades of experience in R&D and commercialization within the pharmaceutical industry. He has previously held positions at companies such as Innovent Biologics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. and Hengrui Pharma. Mr. Zhou holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology from China Pharmaceutical University, a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Nanjing University, and an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from Nanjing University. Mr. Zhou was previously subject to administrative penalties by the Heilongjiang Regulatory Bureau of the China Securities Regulatory Commission for insider trading, which included the confiscation of illegal gains amounting to RMB 450,029.73 and a fine of RMB 500,000. However, he was not prohibited from serving as a director or senior executive, nor was he subjected to any market entry bans.

From August 1995 to July 2021, during his tenure at Hengrui Pharma, Zhou Yunshu held nearly all key positions: starting as a member of the Foreign Trade Department, then Section Chief and Deputy Director of the Development Department, followed by roles as Deputy General Manager, General Manager, and Chairman, before resigning due to certain sensitive reasons.

Simcere believes that Zhou Yunshu has extensive experience in leading pharmaceutical companies in China, and his achievements during his tenure at Hengrui Pharma demonstrate his capabilities and expertise, particularly in driving Hengrui Pharma’s transformation toward innovative drugs. Zhou Yunshu will strengthen Simcere’s business development across multiple areas, especially in the research and development and commercialization of innovative drugs.

According to Simcere’s 2025 annual report, its revenue reached RMB 7.731 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.5%; innovative drugs accounted for as high as 81.5% of total revenue; and net profit attributable to shareholders surged by 86.2% to RMB 1.344 billion.
