As the "heart" of the entire CT system, the technical challenges of the CT X-ray tube are mainly concentrated in two aspects: first, how to withstand extremely high heat loads within an extremely small space; and second, how to maintain long-term stable mechanical performance at rotational speeds of tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. Traditional ball-bearing X-ray tubes are prone to wear, vibration, and failure under high heat and high rotational speeds, becoming a bottleneck that restricts tube lifespan and CT equipment performance.

The technical challenges are primarily manifested in two aspects. First, gallium-indium-tin alloys, which are liquid at room temperature, are highly reactive and can react with most metals, undermining grain boundary cohesion and leading to material "pulverization" or embrittlement. This process is self-catalytic; once initiated, it accelerates continuously. The permeability into sealing surfaces is further exacerbated during the high-temperature operation of X-ray tube envelopes. Second, parameters such as groove design, helix angle, groove depth, and clearance ratio in liquid metal herringbone spiral bearings are extremely sensitive; even minute deviations can have a substantial impact on lubricity and load-bearing capacity.
