In a recent fireside chat with David A. Ricks, Chairman and CEO of Eli Lilly, NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated that NVIDIA and Eli Lilly are co-creating a “blueprint for the future possibilities of drug discovery.”

This conversation took place during the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, focusing on the industry’s first AI joint innovation laboratory established by NVIDIA and Eli Lilly.

Jensen Huang stated, “We are systematically bringing together the brightest minds from the fields of drug discovery and computer science. We aim to build a laboratory with sufficient expertise and scale to attract scientific elites who are truly committed to lifelong exploration in this interdisciplinary domain.”

This initiative will combine Eli Lilly’s global leadership and expertise in the pharmaceutical industry with NVIDIA’s pioneering advancements in artificial intelligence to jointly address one of humanity’s most significant challenges: modeling the complexity of biology. Over a five-year period, the two companies will invest up to $1 billion in talent development, infrastructure, and computing power to support a new laboratory located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In the Fireside Chat, Dai Wenrui reviewed the arduous journey of drug development and explored the potential of AI to revolutionize the drug discovery cycle.

Jensen Huang and Dave Ricks also discussed Eli Lilly’s long history of leveraging computational technologies in pharmaceutical research, as well as how age-related brain diseases are becoming the next frontier in drug development.
