May 19, 2026, marked the 16th "World Family Doctor Day." That afternoon, the Yangpu District Health Commission of Shanghai held a themed promotional event. At the event, the Yangpu District Health Commission announced that nine community health service centers would gradually join the Meituan platform starting this month, launching specialized "Internet + Community Nursing" service packages. Combined with the Xinjiangwancheng Community Health Service Center, which joined Meituan for pilot operations in January this year, a total of ten community health service centers in Yangpu District will be available on Meituan. This initiative will essentially cover the entire community health service system in Yangpu District, making Yangpu the first district-level community health service system in China to fully integrate with a local lifestyle services platform.
It is understood that the “Internet + Community Nursing” specialized service package includes home-based nursing services such as dressing changes, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) maintenance, suture removal, and respiratory tract testing. All related services are provided by registered nurses currently on duty at community health service centers.
As population aging intensifies, the demand for home-based care among disabled elderly individuals, postoperative rehabilitation patients, and those with mobility impairments is growing steadily. The Yangpu District Health Commission is actively exploring a new model of “Internet + Primary Healthcare” services, leveraging digital tools to extend the reach of family doctor contracted services and bridge the “last mile” in delivering home-based medical care.
Early this year, under the guidance of the Yangpu District Health Commission, the Xinjiangwancheng Community Health Service Center became the first community health institution in Shanghai to launch on the Meituan platform. Over the five-month pilot period, online traffic to the center increased by 119.5%, with monthly orders for its signature “Internet + Community Nursing” service packages rising by as much as 533%. The home-based nursing services have also received widespread acclaim from community residents, with many noting that the service has resolved long-standing difficulties and effectively alleviated the challenges faced by middle-aged and elderly individuals in accessing outpatient care.
Building on a solid pilot foundation, nine additional community health service centers in Yangpu District will soon join Meituan, achieving comprehensive digital integration of regional community health resources and further pioneering a new model of “Internet + Healthcare” services.
A Meituan Medical and Health business executive stated that, in practice, Yangpu District has established a tripartite collaborative model featuring “overall coordination by the District Health Commission, implementation by community health centers, and provision of digital capabilities by internet platforms,” offering a replicable and scalable pathway for the digital transformation of primary healthcare. Moving forward, Meituan will continue to collaborate with relevant authorities, leveraging its technological expertise to support the development of primary healthcare systems. Meanwhile, the platform will actively expand cooperation with community health centers in other districts of Shanghai, enabling more residents to access convenient primary healthcare services.
