On May 8, JD Health and GSK China officially entered into a strategic partnership. The two parties will fully leverage their respective strengths in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and internet applications to mutually empower each other, comprehensively enhancing the patient experience across the entire journey from seeking medical care and medication consultations to health management.
JD Health and GSK China Reach Strategic Partnership
As early as October 2016, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council jointly issued the Outline of the “Healthy China 2030” Plan, aiming to advance the construction of a Healthy China and improve the health status of the population. The collaboration between JD Health and GSK China was established against this policy backdrop. At the press conference, Wei Liansheng, Chairman of GlaxoSmithKline (China) Investment Co., Ltd., also stated that GSK hopes to work with JD Health to jointly explore practical applications of “Internet + Healthcare” under the strategic framework of “Healthy China 2030,” thereby enhancing the Chinese public’s sense of access to healthcare services.
Address by Thomas Willemsen, Chairman of GSK China Investment Co., Ltd.
In terms of specific collaboration, to actively respond to the “Internet + Healthcare” initiative proposed by the State Council and alleviate the difficulties patients face in accessing medical care, JD Health will partner with GSK China to provide patients with one-stop, closed-loop solutions. Examples include leveraging big data analytics on user behavior to deliver precise, customized disease education; utilizing internet hospitals to offer health management and disease treatment solutions; and employing Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to provide intelligent medication replenishment services for patients.
As a key initiative in the IoT collaboration between JD Health and GSK China, the “Lai Dian” smart healthcare solution, tailored for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and integrated with advanced IoT technology, was officially launched at the press conference. This project aims to provide convenient and efficient smart healthcare services to patients in remote areas and those with limited mobility, sparing them and their families the arduous travel required for registration and medication procurement, thereby alleviating the burden of disease treatment. Commenting on this, Mr. Xin Lijun, Vice President of JD.com and President of the Home & Lifestyle Division under the Fashion and Lifestyle Business Group of JD Mall, expressed his hope to leverage GSK’s professional capabilities in pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing, along with JD’s user base and technological advantages, to foster cross-industry collaboration that empowers the pharmaceutical sector and enables users to enjoy more professional and convenient disease prevention and management experiences.

In addition to the aforementioned collaboration, JD Health will leverage its strengths in internet and big data technologies to jointly build a health management ecosystem with GSK China, integrate and enhance primary healthcare resources, and promote the improvement of national health levels through more efficient approaches.
Industry insiders analyze that the integration and iteration of internet technology and the pharmaceutical industry are inevitable. Under this major trend, pharmaceutical companies choosing to collaborate with internet platforms like JD.com will further expand the horizontal development potential of their brands. Meanwhile, using e-commerce as an entry point allows users to experience more comprehensive value-added services such as consultations and medication guidance, which is a win-win situation for both JD.com and pharmaceutical companies.
