Dr. Pius S. Hornstein Appointed President of Sanofi China

Today (March 1), Sanofi officially announced that Dr. Pius S. Hornstein, PhD, has assumed the role of General Manager of Sanofi China and President of Sanofi China, effective immediately. He is based in Shanghai and reports directly to Olivier Charmeil, Executive Vice President of Sanofi and Head of the Global Business Unit for China and Emerging Markets.

Mr. Jean-Christophe Pointeau, former President of Sanofi China, has been appointed as the Head of Sanofi Genzyme Europe. He delivered outstanding results for Sanofi China over the past four years. Since January this year, Mr. Pointeau has worked closely with Mr. Enrico Tealdi to ensure a smooth handover and a successful transition in the important Chinese market.

“China has become Sanofi’s second-largest market, with growth reaching as high as 12.7% in 2018. Based on our long-term contributions to the Chinese market and the acceleration driven by innovation, I firmly believe that CEO Olivier Bogillot will lead Sanofi China to even greater success,” said Xia Liwei. “On January 1 this year, Sanofi officially launched its Global Business Unit for China and Emerging Markets, focusing on the unique characteristics and growth opportunities of emerging markets. Sanofi will leverage emerging markets as its primary growth engine and further strengthen its investments in these regions, particularly in the Chinese market.”

Dr. He Enting stated, “Leading the China team is a tremendous honor and responsibility for me. The Chinese pharmaceutical market is undergoing rapid transformation. My top priority is to accelerate the introduction of innovative products into China, while focusing on the development of Sanofi China’s strong talent team.”

For the past four years, He Enting has served as President of Sanofi Brazil. He joined Sanofi in 1998, starting as a Product Manager, and has held a series of key positions within the company over the years, spanning marketing, sales management, and other global strategic management roles. He played a pivotal role in advocating for the inclusion of anticoagulants in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Model List of Essential Medicines.
