VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that UK-based orthopedic company Corin Group, backed by private equity firm Permira, has acquired surgical robotics manufacturer Omni. The acquisition is expected to be completed this month. Permira provided financing for the transaction but did not disclose the specific amount.

Following the acquisition, Corin Group will apply Omni’s surgical robots to plastic surgery procedures, thereby entering the robotic plastic surgery market. This acquisition further underscores Corin’s development strategy: driving robust growth through a focus on mergers and acquisitions.

Omni, founded in 1999 and headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, is a surgical robot manufacturer. The company is at the forefront of the industry in robot-assisted total knee arthroplasty. Its proprietary OMNIBotics system is an image-free knee replacement solution. It is the only knee surgery system equipped with robotic instruments, combining robotic cutting guides and robotic tools to measure ligament function. This enables surgeons to determine the optimal implant position for each patient, thereby extending implant longevity, reducing postoperative pain, and accelerating recovery.

Corin Group, established in 1985 and headquartered in Gloucestershire, UK, is a leader in the field of orthopedic surgery, specializing in providing joint replacement implants for orthopedic patients. Since its inception, the company has distinguished itself globally through clinically validated implants and world-leading technologies. Its diverse product portfolio includes implants for the hip, knee, and ankle, catering to the joint replacement needs of a wide range of orthopedic patients.

Rick Epstein, CEO of Omni, stated: “Joining the Corin Group team will not only maximize the potential of our surgical robotics technology but also add a unique technology to Corin Group’s product portfolio.”

Henry Minello, a partner at Permira, stated, “The U.S. orthopedic robotics market is experiencing rapid growth, and Omni’s surgical robotic technology will help Corin Group secure a foothold in the field of orthopedic surgical robots. Moving forward, we will promote Omni’s products within the United States and across Corin Group’s business footprint.”
