VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that Abbott, a global pharmaceutical giant, recently announced that its Alinity m diagnostic system has received CE marking. This new technology will help meet the growing demand for infectious disease testing. The Alinity m system offers unprecedented flexibility for molecular diagnostic testing, enabling more tests to be performed in less time and delivering faster results for clinicians and patients. Meanwhile, the Alinity m reduces the space and number of instruments required for high-volume testing, while also saving staff time spent on learning to operate and maintaining different instruments.
“To design Alinity m, we spent countless hours working with hundreds of biomedical laboratory directors around the world to address the challenges they face, including higher testing volumes, managing complex and labor-intensive processes, and accomplishing these tasks in less time and space,” said John Carrino, Vice President of Research and Development in Molecular Diagnostics at Abbott. “Alinity m will significantly improve testing and diagnostic efficiency while delivering accurate results that patients and healthcare professionals can trust to make informed decisions about health and treatment.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that over one billion people worldwide are affected by infectious diseases. For individuals with infectious diseases, rapid and accurate molecular testing is essential to help prevent the global spread of these infections. Advanced molecular diagnostic technologies also enable proper diagnosis for patients suffering from these conditions, thereby facilitating the monitoring of their response to treatment.
“Molecular laboratories are playing an increasingly vital role in delivering critical test results, and we are striving to meet this demand,” said Martin Obermeier, M.D., CEO of the Berlin Center for Infectious Diseases. “Alinity m will significantly enhance our laboratory operations by enabling staff to process any sample at any time without the need for batch testing. This allows us to focus on providing physicians with the information they need to make accurate and timely clinical decisions.”
Currently, the Alinity m system is in use in countries that recognize CE marking, providing initial testing, including virological assays for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV). It also offers sexual health-related testing for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Mycoplasma genitalium (CT/NG/TV/MG), as well as testing for high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV).
