On the morning of March 24, the Johnson & Johnson Advanced Technologies Hainan Boao Education Center, established through a collaboration between Johnson & Johnson Medical and Boao Super Hospital, was unveiled in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone. As the first incubation base for cutting-edge medical technology talent within the pilot zone, the center will play a pivotal role in introducing internationally advanced medical technologies, establishing a systematic and sustainable training framework, and facilitating academic exchange platforms. It aims to cultivate a team of Chinese medical instructors and clinical professionals proficient in advanced medical technologies urgently needed in clinical practice.
Liu Qilong, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone in Hainan, stated at the unveiling ceremony:
Liu Qilong
The Education Center fills the gap in medical talent development in the Pilot Zone, playing a significant role in improving the healthcare systems of Boao and Hainan, and facilitating the introduction of advanced international medical technologies, equipment, and products to Boao at “Boao Speed.”
Upon its establishment, the Education Center will leverage diverse and innovative medical training modalities—including surgical observation, remote digital live-streaming of surgeries, digital surgical simulation, and human simulator operating systems—as well as international academic exchanges, to promptly introduce cutting-edge international medical technological innovations and concepts. It will also promote application practices and discussions aligned with international standards, while making comprehensive preparations for the full introduction of new medical technologies, equipment, and products into the Chinese market.
Ye Juzhen, Executive Deputy Director of Boao Super Hospital, said:
Ye Juzhen
Boao Super Hospital boasts first-class hardware facilities, disciplinary expertise, and management platforms in China, while Johnson & Johnson Medical possesses globally leading physician training experience and cutting-edge medical technologies. The talent incubation base established through their collaboration will not only create a closed-loop healthcare system in the pilot zone but also help improve the training system for medical professionals in China, thereby promoting the continuous advancement of healthcare standards in Hainan and across the country.
The inaugural training course following the establishment of the Education Center focused on the application of Johnson & Johnson’s cutting-edge technologies in electrophysiology procedures, such as those for atrial fibrillation. The three-dimensional intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter used in the training is referred to as the physician’s “fluoroscopic eye.” As the world’s slimmest ICE catheter currently available, it replaces traditional methods of simulating internal cardiac structures. By passing through a minimal incision, it comprehensively captures the heart’s internal tissue architecture and assists in generating four-chamber cardiac images.
It is understood that, in the future, the Johnson & Johnson Advanced Technologies Hainan Boao Education Center will further leverage its platform advantages in healthcare talent development and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies. It aims to support the Chinese medical community in achieving real-time alignment with international standards in technology, talent, and clinical practice, meet the needs of Chinese patients and healthcare providers for advanced medical solutions, and create greater value for the development of China’s healthcare system and the advancement of medical care standards.
