WuXi Nextcode to Collaborate with Shanghai Children's Hospital, Fudan University, on Whole-Genome and Exome Sequencing for Diagnosing Rare Pediatric DiseasesRecently, WuXi Nextcode will collaborate with Shanghai Children's Hospital, Fudan University, to conduct whole-genome and exome sequencing for the diagnosis of rare pediatric diseases. WuXi Nextcode will perform sequencing, analysis, and data interpretation in CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratories, and will also provide consumers with genomic and phenotypic data.

Hannes Smarason, Chief Operating Officer of NextCODE, stated in a press release that China will be central to NextCODE’s strategy for introducing its technology into clinical development.

Huang Guoying, President of the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, stated that by leveraging emerging global standards for genomic data analysis in medical research, we can move beyond static gene panels to fully harness the potential of genomics in treating rare diseases, genetic disorders, and cancer.

Earlier this year, WuXi AppTec acquired NextCODE and integrated it into its Genomics Research Center, thereby establishing WuXi Nextcode. Headquartered in Shanghai, the company maintains operational presence in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Reykjavik, Iceland. In June, WuXi Nextcode was selected as one of four companies by Genomics England to conduct integrated analysis of genomic data for the first 8,000 patients in the UK’s 100,000 Genomes Project.
