Minimally Invasive Deformity Correction (MID-C) Research Company
VCBeat (WeChat Official Account: vcbeat) has learned that on April 23, private medical device company ApiFix announced the completion of its Series B financing round. The round was led by U.S. individual investor Palm Tree IV, with participation from existing shareholder The Trendlines Group. The investment amount was not disclosed. The proceeds will be used to accelerate the commercialization of the company’s MID-C system.
ApiFix, a private medical device company and a portfolio company of The Trendlines Group, was founded in 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and is dedicated to improving the lives of young patients with scoliosis.
ApiFix's MID-C System, composed of two screws, two nuts, and one connector, is a dynamic correction device for spinal deformities. The MID-C System is indicated for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients with Lenke type 1 and type 5 curves and Cobb angles up to 60 degrees, who also present with flexible primary and secondary spinal curves.

Surgeons use lateral fluoroscopy to confirm the implantation site. Using a minimally invasive surgical approach, two screws are implanted into the spine at the apex of the main curve and secured with connectors and nuts. The surgery is a brief and relatively simple procedure, lasting approximately one hour. After the operation, patients can be discharged and return home after a hospital stay of two to three days. The MID-C system provides patients with permanent correction of the spinal curve while maintaining spinal flexibility.
Two weeks after surgery, the patient needs to undergo physical therapy to gradually activate the implant, spending twenty minutes each day repeating five postures—hanging, chair bends, side stretches, and inclined positions with straps—to physically correct the spine.
The patient’s recovery process is relatively painless and proceeds rapidly. The MID-C system serves as an “internal support” for patients, featuring a patented unidirectional self-adjusting rod mechanism and movable multi-axis joints. The MID-C system is designed to be removable, supporting postoperative correction. Currently, the MID-C system has obtained CE Mark certification and is commercially available in Europe, Israel, Singapore, and Canada. ApiFix’s next step is to launch the MID-C system in the United States for young patients with scoliosis.
ApiFix CEO Paul Mraz said, “We are delighted that Palm Tree IV has become our new partner as we prepare for the commercialization of the MID-C System in the United States.”
Yizhar Floman, MD, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of ApiFix, stated, “Seven years of patient clinical data have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of the MID-C System. We are delighted to improve the lives of thousands of young scoliosis patients.”
