TOKYO, May 31, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Eisai Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo, Japan; President: Haruo Naito; hereinafter referred to as “Eisai”) recently announced that it will present the latest updates on lemborexant at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (SLEEP 2019). Lemborexant is a sleep-wake regulator under development for the treatment of various sleep-wake disorders, including insomnia and Irregular Sleep-Wake Rhythm Disorder (ISWRD). The conference will be held from June 8 to 12 in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Eight posters will be presented, showcasing a comprehensive analysis of the effects of lemborexant on daily functioning, disease severity, sleep onset, and sleep maintenance in a total of 1,955 patients from two pivotal Phase III clinical trials in insomnia—Sunrise 1 (Study 304) and Sunrise 2 (Study 303); a safety evaluation of respiratory function in elderly patients and those with mild obstructive sleep apnea following lemborexant administration; and the latest preclinical data related to ISWRD.

Lemborexant acts on the orexin neurotransmitter system and is believed to inhibit wakefulness without impairing responsiveness to external arousal stimuli, thereby regulating sleep-wake rhythms for the treatment of various sleep-wake disorders, including insomnia. New drug applications for lemborexant for the treatment of insomnia were submitted in the United States in December 2018 and in Japan in March 2019. For information on ongoing clinical studies, please visit clinicaltrials.gov.

Eisai developed lemborexant to provide a new treatment option for patients suffering from sleep-wake disorders, aiming to improve their ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up refreshed in the morning, thereby contributing to further meeting the diverse needs of patients and their families and enhancing their well-being.

Poster Session: P18, Presentation Date: Monday, June 10, 5:15 PM–7:15 PM (local time)
