Rhino Health, a Chinese manufacturer of high-end ophthalmic medical equipment, has recently completed Series B funding of nearly 100 million RMB. This financing round was led by Yuexiu Capital Holdings, with existing shareholder TigerYeah Capital continuing to participate. According to reports, the funding will primarily be used for the domestic and overseas market promotion of Rhino Health's China's first approved vitrectomy and phacoemulsification combined system, as well as the registration and launch of its next-generation vitrectomy and phacoemulsification combined system. These efforts aim to further consolidate Rhino Health's technological advantages in the field of ophthalmic surgical equipment and accelerate the import substitution process for domestically produced high-end ophthalmic devices in China.

Rhino Health's XR Genesis® Approved as China's First Domestically Produced Phacoemulsification and Vitrectomy Integrated Device

Against the backdrop of an aging population, continuously growing public awareness of eye health, and the elevation of juvenile myopia prevention and control to a national strategy, China's ophthalmic medical market is entering a period of rapid growth. According to Frost & Sullivan, the market size for ophthalmic medical services in China had already reached RMB 252.2 billion in 2025. Within this sector, ophthalmic surgical instruments and equipment, as the core support for eye care diagnostics and treatment, have long been dominated by foreign brands, presenting significant potential for market substitution by domestically manufactured devices. Frost & Sullivan noted that the market size for ophthalmic medical devices (including contact lenses and care solutions) in China reached RMB 30.5 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach RMB 93.3 billion by 2030.

Against this background, Rhino Health, founded in 2021, has focused on the independent research and development of high-end ophthalmic surgical equipment to better meet the needs of ophthalmic care services both in China and internationally. With its high-end ophthalmic devices, core technologies, and supply chain capabilities, Rhino Health has gained favor from investors.

Currently, Rhino Health is driven by clinical needs, offering a comprehensive ophthalmic solution encompassing "surgical equipment, consumables, and training services."

Rhino Health New Generation Phacoemulsification and Vitrectomy Integrated Device

Rhino Health's core product pipeline includes a vitrectomy and phacoemulsification combined system, laser vitrectomy equipment, ophthalmic fiber optic OCT, and an automated ophthalmic vitrectomy robotic system. Among these, the Genesis series vitrectomy and phacoemulsification combined system, as the first domestically produced device approved in China, has broken the market monopoly previously held by foreign companies. Cataracts and vitreoretinal diseases often occur simultaneously and influence each other, frequently requiring combined surgical treatment. Compared with standalone phacoemulsification and vitrectomy systems, a vitrectomy and phacoemulsification combined system enables combined anterior and posterior segment treatment in a single surgery, significantly reducing the number of surgical procedures and trauma, making it well-suited for complex cases involving both cataracts and vitreoretinal diseases.

Behind these pioneering products lies the strong technical expertise of Rhino Health. Rhino Health was founded by a team with a background bridging clinical medicine and engineering. Throughout product development, Rhino Health places a strong emphasis on the deep integration of clinical needs and technology. Rhino Health has established close collaborations with several top-tier hospitals in China, enabling it to rapidly translate clinical challenges into directions for technological innovation, thereby continuously enhancing the clinical applicability and competitiveness of its products. To date, Rhino Health has accumulated over ten technology patents in core technical areas, laying a solid foundation for continuous product iteration and market expansion.

At the same time, Rhino Health has completed the establishment of a systematic training platform for vitrectomy and phacoemulsification surgery. It has trained nearly 50 primary care ophthalmologists in cataract and vitrectomy procedures, shortening the learning curve for ophthalmic surgeons and further supporting the improvement of ophthalmic care capabilities at the primary level. Rhino Health is developing a comprehensive value chain spanning "technology R&D – product commercialization – physician training – market promotion," aiming to further address clinical needs and benefit a broader patient population.
