VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on June 25, U.S. local time, biopharmaceutical company Frontier Medicines completed a $67 million Series A financing round. The funds from this round will be used to support the company's research and development of drugs targeting multiple protein targets.

It is reported that this round of financing was led by Deerfield, DROIA Oncology Ventures, and MPM Capital, with participation from RA Capital Management and other investors.

Frontier Medicines, founded in 2018 and headquartered in California, USA, is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company.

To date, approximately 90% of human proteins are considered undruggable by small-molecule therapeutics due to the absence of known binding sites on their surfaces, thereby preventing most drugs from engaging these proteins to treat diseases. However, Frontier Medicines posits that proteins undergo conformational changes during dynamic motion, creating transient pockets that can serve as druggable targets.

By leveraging chemoproteomics technologies, Frontier Medicines has discovered that these transient targets can traverse various human cell membranes and bind with drugs to treat diseases. This breakthrough enables the therapeutic intervention of multiple viral proteins, which were previously considered "undruggable" by the medical community, thereby making it possible to cure a variety of intractable diseases.

Daniel K. Nomura, Co-Founder of Frontier Medicines, stated, “Our platform covers a substantial portion of the human proteome, including proteins traditionally considered undruggable by the medical community. We will leverage computational technologies to continuously expand our covalent compound library and accelerate the development of novel protein degradation therapies for cancers that currently lack effective treatments. Our company’s platform will provide the data support necessary for advancing our protein-targeted therapeutic technologies.”
