Recently, Springer Nature Group releasedNature Index 2019 Annual TablesFrom which it was found that,Roche, Merck, Thermo Fisher Scientific, BGI, Bruker, Hitachi, Shimadzu, Illumina, JEOL, Agilent, GE, Waters, PacBioA total of 13 in vitro diagnostics (IVD) instrument companies are listed among the Global Top 100 Enterprises.
Of the 13 companies, nine are from Europe and the United States, three are from Japan, and one is China’s BGI. Among them, GE, Shimadzu, PacBio, and Thermo Fisher saw significant year-on-year increases in their Nature Index scores, with Shimadzu’s ranking jumping from 97th in 2018 to 47th. The flagship products of BGI, Illumina, and PacBio are all focused on gene sequencing. Reports indicate that Illumina plans to acquire PacBio for $1.2 billion, a deal still under investigation by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
