Shenzhen Releases Top 20 Leading Biotech Enterprises List; Mindray Medical and Chipscreen Among Selected

Nandu News, reporters Cheng Yang and Li Rong: On September 11, the 2019 Shenzhen International BT (Biotechnology) Conference (hereinafter referred to as the “BT Conference”) officially opened at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. At the conference, KPMG China and the Shenzhen National High-Tech Industry Innovation Center jointly released the “2019 Shenzhen Top 20 Leading Biotech Enterprises List.”

Since the launch of online registration in April 2019, the jury has selected outstanding enterprises through a comprehensive evaluation mechanism comprising on-site due diligence, online modeling, and expert panel reviews. The selection criteria span six key dimensions: “Technological and Business Model Innovation,” “Transformation and Empowerment of the Traditional Healthcare Industry,” “Market Recognition and Growth Potential in Niche Segments,” “Financial Health and Growth Performance,” “Valuation and Capital Market Recognition,” and “Team Capabilities and Corporate Innovation Mechanisms.”

After more than five months of preparation and implementation, the selection for this ranking has been completed. The ranking is divided into the Leading Enterprises List and the Pioneer Enterprises List. The Leading Enterprises List primarily focuses on biotechnology companies with a market capitalization of no less than RMB 1 billion and annual operating revenue of no less than RMB 100 million in the most recent year. The Pioneer Enterprises List mainly targets pre-IPO biotechnology companies at the Pre-A financing round or later. This ranking includes 11 Leading Enterprises and 9 Pioneer Enterprises, showcasing diversified business operations: 9 companies are in the medical device sector, 10 in pharmaceuticals and precision medicine, and 1 in medical services.

Zhu Min, Head of Operations at the KPMG China Greater Bay Area Innovation and Entrepreneurship Shared Center, stated that in February this year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council released the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, in which biopharmaceuticals were included as one of the strategic emerging industries slated for robust development. Recently, the release of the Opinions on Supporting Shenzhen in Building a Pilot Demonstration Zone of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics has attracted widespread attention. Shenzhen boasts globally leading enterprises in fields such as the internet, communications, AI, robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), biopharmaceuticals, and future transportation.
