AppleFormer Pharmaceutical Giant CIO David Smoley Hired as Vice President: Not Currently Responsible for Healthcare Operations
According to foreign media reports, Apple confirmed on Friday local time that it has hired the pharmaceutical giantAstraZenecaDavid Smoley, Chief Information Officer of AstraZeneca, serves as the company's Vice President.
Reports indicate that David Smoley joined Apple in early September and will report to Chief Information Officer Mary Demby in his new role. Apple has confirmed this news. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Smoley’s responsibilities at Apple are likely to be similar to those he held at AstraZeneca, and that he will not be involved in Apple’s healthcare division for the time being. To date, AstraZeneca has declined to comment on its former executive.
Prior to serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, Smoley served as CIO and Senior Vice President at Flextronics from December 2016, having previously heldHoneywell(Honeywell)’s Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Avionics Systems. Smoley previously served as Director and CIO of GE Power Controls in Barcelona, Spain, and also held a position at HotLink,SnapMember of the advisory boards of Logic, Egnyte, Trifacta, and InformationWeek.
Smoly graduated from Clemson University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and an MBA in Marketing and General Management from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. He is also recognized as an early adopter of cloud computing. According to his LinkedIn profile, he received the Fisher-Hopper Award for his lifetime achievement in CIO leadership.
