Shanghai, October 9 (CNS) – The second China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as the “CIIE”) will be held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2019. Building on its active participation in the inaugural CIIE, Medtronic will showcase its flagship medical technologies at the second edition of the expo. Addressing numerous urgent healthcare needs, Medtronic is injecting new vitality through technological innovation and exploring breakthroughs for the development of China’s health sector.
The China International Import Expo (CIIE) has created a platform for the medical technology industry to popularize disease knowledge, disseminate scientific treatment concepts, and showcase the appeal of advanced medical technologies, while also opening a window for connecting these technologies with the needs of Chinese patients. One of Medtronic’s “star exhibits” at the inaugural CIIE—the Micra transcatheter leadless pacemaker—benefited from the spillover effects of the expo, achieving its first market-based application in China just one month after the event at Hainan Boao Super Hospital. On June 11, 2019, Micra received approval for clinical use through the National Medical Products Administration’s special review pathway for innovative medical devices, marking its official launch in the Chinese market and signaling that China had formally entered the era of leadless pacing for arrhythmia treatment.

At the upcoming second China International Import Expo, Medtronic will unveil a wave of cutting-edge medical “black technologies,” including the world’s first hemodialysis system designed specifically for neonates¹; renal sympathetic denervation technology that has rewritten the history of hypertension treatment; a continuous glucose monitoring system capable of predicting hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia and remotely notifying family members; electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy technology, which holds promise for making non-surgical treatment of early-stage lung cancer and pulmonary nodules a reality; an integrated solution for neurosurgery and spinal surgery; and thrombectomy stents for treating acute ischemic stroke, the “leading killer.” In total, nearly 50 medical technology products will be showcased, collectively reflecting international healthcare trends such as intelligent care, early diagnosis and intervention, minimally invasive therapy, and telemedicine.
Recently, the newly issued “Healthy China Action (2019–2030)” by the Healthy China Action Promotion Committee pointed out that with industrialization, urbanization, population aging, and changes in ecological environment and lifestyle behaviors, chronic non-communicable diseases have become the leading causes of death and disease burden among residents. The burden caused by chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes accounts for more than 70% of the total disease burden. It has become crucial to adopt effective intervention measures, shift prevention efforts upstream, and actively respond to the diagnosis and treatment needs of highly prevalent diseases.
Against this backdrop, Medtronic will build on the experience and achievements gained from participating in the first China International Import Expo (CIIE), further leveraging the expo’s open and win-win platform effect. At the second CIIE, Medtronic will introduce new medical concepts and technological applications, showcasing cutting-edge technologies in smart surgery, neurosurgery and spinal surgery, vascular and cardiac care, intraoperative monitoring and recovery, health management, and early diagnosis and treatment. This effort aims to lead the development of medical technology toward greater intelligence, minimally invasive procedures, precision, and safety, helping more Chinese patients alleviate suffering, regain health, and extend their lives. By providing comprehensive medical solutions, Medtronic seeks to promote the transformation and upgrading of China’s healthcare system, align it with international advanced standards, and contribute to the ultimate realization of the “Healthy China 2030” goals.
