Eisai Presents Latest Lemborexant Data at World Sleep 2019, Highlighting Long-Term Efficacy and Safety in Insomnia and Potential in ISWRD

TOKYO, Oct. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- At the World Sleep 2019 congress, held in Vancouver, Canada, from September 20 to 25, 2019, Eisai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; CEO: Haruo Naito) presented the latest data on lemborexant, which is currently under development. Lemborexant is an investigational sleep-wake regulator being developed for the treatment of various sleep-wake disorders, including insomnia and irregular sleep-wake rhythm disorder (ISWRD).

At this conference, oral presentations were delivered covering the following topics: the first-ever release of analysis results from a 12-month dosing period in the Phase III clinical trial (SUNRISE-2 trial) of lemborexant, which aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of long-term administration in patients with insomnia; and the impact of lemborexant on sleep architecture in elderly patients with insomnia in the Phase III clinical trial (SUNRISE-1 trial) evaluating efficacy and safety. Additionally, regarding non-clinical studies, Eisai presented an oral report on the evaluation of lemborexant’s efficacy using ISWRD model mice. Six poster themes were displayed, including partial analysis results from the SUNRISE-2 trial, such as the anti-fatigue efficacy of lemborexant assessed by patient-reported outcomes during the 6-month placebo-controlled dosing period.
