Tokyo, October 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Eisai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; CEO: Haruo Naito; “Eisai”) and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; President: Shinichi Hirose; “Tokio Marine Nichido”) recently announced that they have formed a business alliance focused on coexistence with dementia and its prevention.

Under this agreement, the following initiatives are planned: (1) “Disease Awareness Initiatives” to eliminate misunderstandings and misconceptions about dementia and promote accurate understanding of the condition; (2) “Environmental Development,” involving daily self-assessment of cognitive function; and (3) “Measures to Familiarize Patients with Insurance Products,” aimed at helping individuals with dementia continue their daily lives. Eisai and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance will leverage Eisai’s extensive experience and expertise in dementia-related drug development and disease awareness activities, together with Tokio Marine & Nichido’s specialized knowledge and networks cultivated through its insurance products and related services, to advance the goals of coexistence with and prevention of dementia.

As part of cognitive initiatives for dementia, Eisai and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance have recently begun distributing the brochure “From Awareness to Changing Perceptions of Dementia: What Is Dementia?” This brochure was jointly produced by both parties, drawing on Eisai’s experience and expertise in the field of dementia.

This brochure provides a brief overview of the symptoms and types of dementia, as well as the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. It also includes interviews with experts and healthcare professionals, covering topics such as dementia imaging and the daily lives of patients with dementia and their families.

“Misconceptions and assumptions (such as the belief that individuals with dementia cannot understand anything, or that they can no longer live their lives in their usual way once dementia develops) create an impression that dementia is a terrifying and distressing condition. I hope this brochure will help disseminate accurate knowledge about dementia, dispel misconceptions, and enhance public understanding of the true nature of dementia.”。”Dr. Manabu Ikeda, Professor of Psychiatry at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, who oversaw the production of this brochure, stated as follows.

"Dementia Cognitive Awareness Brochures" will continue to be serialized and published.
