Investment Circle (WeChat ID: pedaily2012) reported on November 2 that Shenzhen Xbiome Co., Ltd. recently completed a Series B financing round of over RMB 100 million. This round of investment was led byLegend CapitalLead Investor, Existing InvestorsGaorong VenturesMorningside Ventures and Alwin Investment continued to participate in the follow-on investment. Since announcing its Series A+ financing round in June this year, Xbiome has customized and improved strain analysis algorithms such as StrainFinder and PanPhlAn on its bioinformatics and AI platforms, enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of strain detection and analysis.
In August 2018, Xbiome completed a funding round led by Gaorong Ventures, with Morningside Ventures andZhenFundSeries A round of joint investment. Earlier this year, the company completed its Series A+ financing, led by Lihe Hongxin and co-invested by Alwin Investment, bringing the total amount raised across both rounds to tens of millions of US dollars. Moving forward, Xbiome will further enhance its proprietary microbiome drug R&D platform and accelerate the progress of its ongoing clinical pipelines.
It is reported that Xbiome, founded in 2017, is China’s first AI-driven microbiome pharmaceutical company. The company is dedicated to tackling refractory human diseases and improving human health by leveraging gut microbiome modulation as its foundation, supported by AI technology and bioengineering.
Xbiome’s core R&D team comprises members from the Broad Institute, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,Stanford University, composed of scientists from prestigious universities and research institutions such as the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York University, and Johns Hopkins University. The drug development team possesses R&D experience from international pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies including Pfizer, Novartis, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. The clinical team members have over 20 years of experience in drug clinical trials, regulatory submissions, and FDA drug review. Xbiome’s Scientific Advisory Committee consists of academicians from the Chinese and U.S. Academies of Sciences, former FDA drug review experts, and experts from the pharmaceutical industry.
Within just a year and a half of its establishment, Xbiome had already built a data-driven preclinical platform for microbiome pharmaceuticals, providing end-to-end standard operating procedures (SOPs) for drug development approaches that still lack standardization. The platform comprises six sub-platforms, overseeing all stages from microbiota computation to discovery, R&D, and manufacturing.
