(MedValley(Reporter Zhang Rongrong) From November 5 to 10, Thermo Fisher Scientific showcased more than 40 exhibits at the Second China International Import Expo, concentrating on its latest digital solutions and innovative achievements in key vertical sectors—including academic research, healthcare and precision medicine, biologics and pharmaceuticals, food safety, and environmental monitoring—across five dedicated exhibition zones.
It is reported that more than 10 of the 40 exhibits are new products launched in 2019, with three making their global debut. Among them, the Thermo Scientific™ Sensititre™ Aris HiQ Automated Microbial Identification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing System facilitates the timely detection of novel resistance phenotypes and monitoring of resistance trends. Through collaborations with pharmaceutical companies, it provides access to the latest antibiotic options. According to a report previously released by the World Health Organization, antimicrobial resistance is projected to cause 10 million deaths annually by 2050, equivalent to one life lost every three seconds. Antibiotic resistance has become a major public health challenge confronting countries worldwide, and the launch of this product will help address this threat.

Another newly launched product, the Nicolet™ Summit Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer, features a revolutionary “Lightdrive” optical engine. It adapts to various application scenarios in routine laboratories, enabling faster identification, verification, and quantitative analysis of materials than ever before, significantly reducing sample measurement time. It is widely applicable in materials science, biologyMedicine, biochemistry, pharmacy, daily chemical industry, and other research fields. By comparing the infrared spectrum of an unknown substance with spectra in a standard library, the composition of the unknown compound can be rapidly determined.

On November 8, Thermo Fisher Scientific made a major debut at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) with the global launch of the Ion Torrent™ Genexus™ System, the first high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform capable of automatically completing the entire workflow from sample preparation to result reporting within a single day. The company also released the accompanying Oncomine™ Precision Assay pan-cancer kit.

As Thermo Fisher Scientific’s first fully integrated high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform worldwide, this system enables the automated and cost-effective completion of the entire gene sequencing workflow—from sample to report—within a single day using only minimal sample input. This advancement facilitates the broader clinical adoption of precision medicine, supports more hospitals in establishing their own in-house NGS testing platforms, and helps patients with cancer and other diseases obtain rapid, comprehensive diagnostic results. These capabilities better guide the selection of targeted therapy regimens, thereby enhancing treatment efficacy and improving patient prognosis.
In addition to showcasing a range of blockbuster products, Thermo Fisher Scientific has specially created multiple interactive surprises at its booth to help attendees better appreciate how cutting-edge technology is transforming daily life. At the center of the booth, the “Journey of Life Cycle” interactive screen installation allows visitors to follow each step of the life journey through touch-based interaction, experiencing how Thermo Fisher’s digital solutions and big data population studies help address health challenges encountered at various stages of life. Its core content covers several hot topics, including reproductive health, cancer screening and diagnosis, and therapeutic biologics.
This year marks Thermo Fisher Scientific’s second participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Hann Pang, Vice President of Commercial Operations for Greater China at Thermo Fisher Scientific, believes that the CIIE serves as an excellent platform for showcasing innovations and facilitating supply-demand matchmaking, thereby bringing greater attention and business opportunities to companies. “Thermo Fisher Scientific felt the strong momentum of the Chinese market during the inaugural CIIE, where we completed multiple signings. This is precisely why we chose to globally launch three new products at this year’s CIIE,” said Hann Pang.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has been operating in China for over 35 years. Headquartered in Shanghai, the company has established branches in multiple provinces and municipalities across China, with a workforce of 5,000 employees. To better meet the demands of the Chinese market, Thermo Fisher Scientific has built seven manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, and Guangzhou, and has set up eight application development centers and demonstration laboratories nationwide. These initiatives aim to deliver cutting-edge technologies and products to Chinese customers while providing services such as application development and training. Additionally, the China Innovation Center in Shanghai is dedicated to integrating local market needs with advanced international technologies to research and develop solutions tailored specifically for China.
“China is the world’s second-largest market. In the future, we will continue to root ourselves in China and serve the Chinese market, implement our localization strategy, increase investment in laboratories and R&D centers, leverage advanced technologies and solutions to help customers and the industry undergo transformation and upgrading, meet the growing demands of the Chinese market, and contribute to the early realization of Healthy China 2030,” said Hann Pang, Vice President of Commercial Operations for Thermo Fisher Scientific in China.
