The collaboration between the two parties includes the following: First, both parties will jointly promote the implementation and application of Medtronic’s innovative therapies across multiple hospitals under the New Milestone Hospital Group, covering but not limited to the fields of cardiac and vascular diseases, neurological disorders, spinal conditions, cancer, and endocrinology, thereby improving the accessibility of these therapies and benefiting more patients in China.
Second, with the support of Medtronic’s clinical training system, New Journey Hospital Group will further empower its affiliated hospitals to improve discipline construction and the cultivation system for clinical talent pipelines.
Medtronic boasts world-class clinical training capabilities. In China, the Medtronic Shanghai Innovation Center has introduced cutting-edge clinical training facilities and has trained more than 50,000 surgeons to date. New Journey Hospital Group will collaborate with Medtronic to provide a more advanced, systematic, and diverse training framework for clinical professionals across its affiliated hospitals, thereby enhancing the clinical skills of medical staff and driving continuous improvement in the quality of healthcare services.
Third, Medtronic’s diabetes business has partnered with “Dingling Doctor,” the internet healthcare platform under New Horizon Hospital Group, leveraging Medtronic’s strengths in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) products and Dingling Doctor’s channel advantages to strive for an “Internet+” model of diabetes disease management.
New Journey Hospital Group’s “Dingling Doctor” is built on a foundation of “brick-and-mortar medical institutions + internet hospitals.” Through the Dingling Doctor app, it focuses on online consultations for specialized and chronic diseases, tiered diagnosis and treatment, and offline DTP (Direct-to-Patient) pharmacies, thereby completing the “last mile” of “Internet + Healthcare.”
Meanwhile, both parties will explore collaboration between New Milestone Capital and Medtronic in the areas of venture capital and technology incubation, aiming to support emerging forces in China’s healthcare technology sector and uncover new growth drivers for the domestic medical technology industry.
In October 2019, New Journey Hospital Group initiated the establishment of New Journey Capital and launched a healthcare industry fund with a total size of RMB 10 billion and an initial closing of RMB 2 billion. The fund is dedicated to investing in high-quality projects in the broader health sector and in research achievements with leading advantages. By fully leveraging New Journey Hospital Group’s extensive offline medical traffic entry points and its industry-academia-research synergy in partnership with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the fund provides broad application scenarios for high-quality global projects, comprehensively building a globally competitive healthcare ecosystem.
Within Medtronic’s global footprint, the Chinese market is experiencing rapid growth and holds immense potential. 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of Medtronic’s entry into China. Medtronic firmly believes that, driven by its large population, aging demographics, and rapid urbanization, China is destined to become the world’s largest healthcare market, with privately funded hospitals playing an increasingly vital role in this significant opportunity.
Lin Yanglin stated that New Journey Hospital Group has rapidly developed over the past few years into a large-scale healthcare group with more than 10,000 beds, focusing on addressing the production relations of traditional medical institutions through mixed-ownership reforms. This collaboration between New Journey and Medtronic will explore technological advancement and institutional liberation in traditional medical institutions from both productivity and production relations perspectives.
