Internet Medical Health Platform
Shanghai 2December 4, 2019/PRNewswire/ -- Today, Merck KGaA, a leading global science and technology company, and Ping An Healthcare and Technology Company Limited (stock abbreviation: “PINGAN GOOD DOCTOR”, 1833.HK), one of the world’s leading healthcare ecosystem platforms, signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shanghai. The two parties will jointly explore integrated solutions in China to promote the development of smart healthcare in the country, addressing unmet needs of Chinese patients and responding to the outline of the “Healthy China Action (2019–2030)” initiative.
“We are delighted to partner with PINGAN GOOD DOCTOR to jointly explore more patient-centric pathways and help patients strengthen their health management through integrated pharmaceutical and healthcare solutions,” said Roger Ren, Managing Director of Merck China’s Biopharma Business. “As part of our digital strategy, we are committed to seeking innovative solutions to bring greater benefits to patients, fulfilling our mission to improve the lives of 40 million patients in China by 2025.”
A representative of PINGAN GOOD DOCTOR stated, “PINGAN GOOD DOCTOR will leverage the advantages of its healthcare ecosystem platform and its unique service model of ‘Internet + AI + a self-owned medical team of thousands,’ while collaborating with Merck KGaA’s advanced technologies and high-quality products, to provide the platform’s extensive user base with higher-quality, personalized chronic disease management and healthcare services. By ensuring that premium medical resources revolve around users, we actively support the precise implementation of the Healthy China strategy.”
This collaboration will leverage Merck’s medical expertise, high-quality pharmaceuticals, and innovative solutions, combined with PINGAN GOOD DOCTOR’s extensive experience in AI-driven healthcare technology, insurance, and online-to-offline medical resources, to jointly develop a comprehensive one-stop pharmaceutical and healthcare solution. The Chinese government has consistently been committed to improving the efficiency of healthcare services and enhancing patients’ experience of medical and health services, introducing a series of policies related to “Internet + Healthcare.” In alignment with these initiatives, our digital solutions will focus on assisted diagnosis and targeted disease management for chronic diseases and infertility. In the future, both parties will also consider establishing a platform encompassing disease awareness and prevention, health screenings, personalized medical and wellness services, and an integrated “Healthcare + Insurance” model, to support the development of health management across China.
To support the government’s initiatives to improve the tiered diagnosis and treatment system and promote the decentralization of high-quality medical resources, Merck will also collaborate with PINGAN GOOD DOCTOR to explore ways to break down barriers between online and offline healthcare. This includes pioneering innovative pharmaceutical retail models across multiple channels—such as retail pharmacies, hospitals, and primary care institutions—and establishing an omnichannel retail system.
