Pfizer's Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium Tops Fujian's October Drug Sales Ranking Again

Recently, the Fujian Provincial Healthcare Security Administration released the top 20 drugs by sales revenue in Fujian Province’s joint price-limited and transparent procurement program for October. Among them, Pfizer’s Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection once again ranked as the best-selling drug in Fujian Province. Details are shown in the table below.

Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection is a compound preparation consisting of a sterile, uniformly mixed powder of cefoperazone sodium and sulbactam sodium. Cefoperazone sodium is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal effect primarily by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam sodium is a β-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefoperazone sodium from hydrolysis by β-lactamases, thereby enhancing the efficacy of cefoperazone sodium. This medication is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, reproductive system infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, sepsis, meningitis, and other conditions caused by susceptible bacteria.

According to sales data from Yaozhi Hospital, the sales revenue of Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection in sample hospitals nationwide increased year by year from 2016 to 2018, reaching RMB 1.212 billion in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 0.85%.

It is worth noting that there are currently as many as 345 domestic market approval documents for Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection in China, involving 87 manufacturers. Among them, Pfizer has captured the majority of the hospital market share for this product. For instance, in 2018, the annual sales revenue of Pfizer’s Cefoperazone Sodium and Sulbactam Sodium for Injection in sample hospitals reached RMB 974 million, accounting for 85.73% of the hospital market.

Furthermore, according to the monthly drug sales rankings published by the Fujian Provincial Healthcare Security Administration, Pfizer’s product has consistently ranked among the top five in sales volume, underscoring the substantial market demand for this medication.
