On December 14, Johnson & Johnson Medical announced the launch of its premium breast implant line, MENTOR® MemoryGel® Xtra, in China. ZhonghuaMedicineProfessor Luan Jie, Chairman of the Chinese Society of Plastic Surgery and Chief Physician in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Professor Jiang Hua, President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Director of the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Shanghai East Hospital affiliated with Tongji University; Joseph Matton, Global Strategic Marketing Director of MENTOR; and Wang Jinhe, General Manager of the Cardiovascular and Specialty Solutions segment at Johnson & Johnson Medical, jointly attended and launched the market release ceremony.

MENTOR breast implants are certified by the U.S. FDA, the European CE, and China's NMPA. With decades of professional experience in researching, developing, and producing high-quality breast implants worldwide, MENTOR has been approved for marketing in over 170 countries, with more than 5 million women globally having used its products. The launch of the AURA Starlight series breast implants in China further balances safety and natural appearance, offering Chinese beauty seekers an enhanced aesthetic experience.

With rapid economic development and social progress, Chinese women have increasingly focused on self-improvement, a trend that has significantly boosted the “beauty economy.” When making beauty-related choices, women are increasingly guided by their own aesthetic preferences and are eager to share their beauty experiences. According to relevant data, in 2019, the size of China’s medical aesthetics market exceeded RMB 270 billion, and the breast augmentation market has grown to become the third-largest globally, trailing only those of the United States and Brazil.

Joseph Matton, Global Strategic Marketing Director of MENTOR, a Johnson & Johnson MedTech company, stated, “The launch of the MEMORYGEL XTRA breast implant portfolio underscores MENTOR’s commitment to patients seeking aesthetic enhancement. We remain dedicated to prioritizing their health and safety, addressing the needs of both patients and physicians in the Chinese market. By adhering to high-quality standards and enhanced safety criteria, we provide professional solutions. The MEMORYGEL XTRA series delivers the natural feel that patients desire.”

As the Chinese breast augmentation market experiences rapid growth, consumption trends among women undergoing breast augmentation have also shifted. Women have moved from an initial blind pursuit of increased size to a greater emphasis on personalized aesthetic outcomes and the confidence gained post-surgery. Professor Luan Jie, Chairman of the Chinese Society of Plastic Surgery under the Chinese Medical Association, stated, "The primary concerns for women seeking breast augmentation are the safety of breast implants and the natural appearance of the breasts after surgery. The Allergan Natrelle Inspira series of breast implants effectively balances safety and naturalness, offering Chinese women pursuing curvaceous beauty a new premium option. This allows them to achieve enhanced beauty safely while enjoying a more realistic and soft touch."

In a single-blind tactile test conducted by the MENTOR brand, both plastic surgeons and potential product users unanimously chose the “MemoryGel Xtra” breast implants. Professor Jiang Hua, President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, also stated, “From a clinical application perspective, the newly launched MemoryGel Xtra breast implants feature a soft texture and a natural, perky appearance. They will help more women fully accentuate their curvaceous beauty. Meanwhile, these implants facilitate easier insertion for surgeons, ensuring smoother procedures and minimizing damage to the implant capsule, thereby further enhancing postoperative outcomes. We look forward to the rapid introduction of more high-quality solutions into China.”

Wang Jinhe, General Manager of the Cardiovascular and Specialty Solutions business at Johnson & Johnson MedTech, stated, “China is one of the most important and fastest-growing markets for Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s global operations. We are committed to value innovation, driving industry development through diverse and open models of collaboration, to deliver higher-qualityMedical Healthsolutions. In the future, we will continue to work hand in hand with our partners to promote the overall quality improvement and standardization of the medical aesthetics industry.”
