Lima Corporate’s digital platform, Smart SPACE, incorporates advanced orthopedic technologies and a suite of innovative software applications capable of transforming the industry landscape. Among these is the Smart SPACE Shoulder software, co-developed with a group of renowned surgeons, including Christopher Bain (Christopher Bayne), M.D. (Sacramento, California), Wayne Burkhead (Wayne Burkhead) (M.D., Dallas, Texas), Anil Dutta (San Antonio, Texas), Patrick Nord (Patrick Noud) (MD, Lansing, Michigan), Giuseppe Porcellini (Giuseppe Porcellini(Professor, Italy), Sheldon Martin (Shelden Martin) (M.D., Phoenix, Arizona), Kevin Setter (Kevin Setter) (M.D., Syracuse, New York) and Michael Vetter (Michael Wiater(M.D., Beverly Hills, Michigan).
LimaCorporate is set to officially launch its first digital solution, the Smart SPACE Shoulder Planner, currently available in limited quantities on the market. The full commercial version of this software will be released later this year.
This software generates patient-specific 3D models based on CT scan reports, assisting surgeons in rapidly and effectively planning total shoulder arthroplasty. Compatible with Lima Corporate’s full portfolio of shoulder implants, the software enables the design of surgical plans for a wide range of primary total shoulder arthroplasty indications. Leveraging proprietary machine learning algorithms, the system extracts information from a large-scale database containing morphological data points to devise surgical plans and 3D Positioner navigation guides. Future releases of the software will include an intraoperative guidance system aimed at simplifying the shoulder arthroplasty procedure and delivering a personalized treatment experience for patients.
The first surgical procedure planned using the Smart SPACE Shoulder Planner software was performed by Dr. Anil Dutta at Foundation Surgical Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Upon the successful completion of the surgery, Dr. Dutta enthusiastically stated, “We have just completed the first case planned with the Smart SPACE planning software, and we are proud of the achievements made by the Smart SPACE team. The Smart SPACE system enables the surgical team to predict multiple critical parameters, such as glenoid version correction, glenoid coverage, and appropriate implant sizing. I believe the postoperative X-ray results perfectly demonstrate the success of the repair plan predicted by the 3D analysis. I am also confident that we will soon see practical, comprehensive, and universally applicable digital planning systems, which is truly exhilarating to contemplate.”
LimaCorporate CEO Luigi Ferrari (Luigi Ferrari) stated: “The surgery planned using the Smart SPACE Shoulder software has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in the history of LimaCorporate. This signifies that we have taken the first step in our digital transformation, and we will now concentrate all our efforts on providing solutions that create greater clinical and economic value for all our business partners.”
