Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the third most common chronic disease in China, after hypertension and diabetes.[1]. The latest data show that nearly 100 million people in China are affected by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and the prevalence of COPD has increased significantly in recent years due to low awareness and diagnosis rates. [2,3], has become the third leading cause of death among residents in China[4]. Similar to the management of other chronic diseases, patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) require long-term adherence to standardized medication regimens to achieve stable outcomes.
With the deep integration of internet technology and healthcare services, the “Healthy China” strategy further emphasizes the development of convenient and beneficial “Internet + Healthcare” services, achieving a new model of informatized and standardized chronic disease management by improving the “Internet +” drug supply guarantee.[5]Amid the severe situation of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (abbreviated as "COVID-19") epidemic, the online diagnosis and treatment model for chronic diseases, accelerated by "Internet+" technology, has further highlighted its advantages. Leveraging the "Internet + Healthcare" trend, GSK and AliHealth have also launched a "Chronic Disease Service Program" for patients with chronic hepatitis B, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), providing comprehensive support and supply for medication needs related to these conditions on online health platforms, thereby helping patients manage their diseases more safely and effectively. In addition, GSK will reduce the supply price of Trelegy to expand patient accessibility, particularly enabling more patients to benefit from this innovative product during the epidemic.
Zhu Shunyan, CEO of AliHealth, stated, “During the pandemic, we collaborated with more than 50 renowned pharmaceutical companies both domestically and internationally to launch the ‘Medication Without Leaving Home’ initiative, enabling patients with chronic diseases to purchase medications on Tmall, receive online follow-up consultations, and have their prescriptions delivered to their doorsteps. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third most prevalent chronic disease in China. Trelegy, the triple-inhaler therapy introduced by GSK for Chinese patients, is also the first COPD triple therapy globally approved for once-daily dosing. We believe that through our joint efforts, we can provide COPD patients with a seamless end-to-end service experience, encompassing online follow-up consultations and prescription renewals, product delivery, and online medication management.”

Leveraging our own strengths and the power of the Alibaba ecosystem, we will actively explore innovative ‘Internet + Healthcare’ service models to help address disease management and medical challenges for patients with chronic diseases in China. Trelegy is the first once-daily triple therapy for COPD approved by GSK in China, embodying the company’s years of innovation in the field of COPD treatment.
