THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., April 1, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) and the Amgen Foundation announced an initial commitment of $12.5 million to support global efforts against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and aid communities affected by the pandemic. The funding will support Amgen’s emergency response initiatives in communities worldwide, pandemic prevention and control projects undertaken by patient organizations, as well as international relief efforts by Direct Relief and International Medical Corps. Additionally, the Amgen Foundation will match donations made by Amgen employees globally.

Currently, there is an urgent need for communities to take effective measures to slow the spread of the virus and support those directly affected by the outbreak,” said Robert A. In addition, the “Amgen Foundation-supported”LabXchange™" and "Khan Academy Online Learning Website“Online science learning platforms will be made freely accessible to help students continue their science education while schools are closed. LabXchange, a free online science education platform developed by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University, offers users personalized instruction, virtual laboratory experiences, and opportunities for online engagement with the global scientific community. To date, with support from the Amgen Foundation, the Khan Academy platform has provided more than 300 videos, 80 practice sets, and 195 articles in biology-related courses.”
