SEATTLE, June 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Global biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO)AGC BiologicsAnnounced that the company has acquired a state-of-the-art commercial manufacturing facility located in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Previously owned by AstraZeneca, this facility will provide AGC Biologics with increased capacity and significantly larger-scale production capabilities. The facility is expected to be fully operational and commence production by April 2021.

The Colorado facility is a large-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing site featuring two stainless steel mammalian cell bioreactors with a total volume of 20,000 liters. Spanning over 20 acres, the facility offers multiple opportunities for future expansion, including space to install up to four additional bioreactors with a combined capacity of 20,000 liters. This cost-effective, automated facility is well-suited for large-volume commercial production and high-titer antibody processes.

AGC Biologics is rapidly expanding its customer portfolio, including increasing the proportion of late-stage and commercial projects, as well as advancing existing projects into the commercial phase. The addition of a new member to its facility network will enable AGC Biologics to support a broader range of commercial needs.

In addition to acquiring the Colorado facility, AGC Biologics will complete major facility expansion projects in Seattle, Copenhagen, and Chiba in 2020 and early 2021. Patricio Massera, CEO of AGC Biologics (Patricio Massera) stated: “The acquisition of the Colorado facility supports AGC Biologics’ company-wide expansion strategy, which underscores our commitment to meeting current and future customer needs for mammalian cell projects. Acquiring the Colorado facility will enable us to continue advancing the development of our development, manufacturing, and commercial functions within our dynamically growing global organization.”
