On July 28, Terns Pharmaceuticals, a global innovative pharmaceutical company focused on chronic liver diseases and cancer, and Hansoh Pharma, a leading R&D-driven pharmaceutical company in Asia, announced today that they had signed a product collaboration and licensing agreement. Under the agreement, Hansoh Pharma will obtain the rights to develop and commercialize TRNA-000632 in the Greater China region. TRNA-000632 is a highly potent allosteric inhibitor of the BCR-ABL protein, currently being developed for indications related to chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
Under the terms of the agreement, Hansoh Pharma will obtain exclusive rights to develop and commercialize TRNA-000632 in Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan). Shanghai Tuozhen Biological Technology Co., Ltd. will receive upfront payments, as well as research and development, regulatory, and sales milestone payments totaling no more than USD 68 million, and will additionally be entitled to future royalties based on product sales. Shanghai Tuozhen Biological Technology Co., Ltd. will retain the rights to develop and commercialize the product in all other global markets.
The advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors has benefited many patients with chronic myeloid leukemia; however, a significant number of patients develop resistance to these agents, failing to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes. TRNA-000632 targets a unique allosteric binding site specific to the mutated BCR-ABL protein, which differs significantly from current tyrosine kinase inhibitors that target the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) active binding site. Consequently, this agent is expected to further enhance therapeutic efficacy and reduce drug resistance in patients.
